Another topic back from the dead!
My beloved HD has started speeding up now. I checked the belts and they look okay. I bought it refurbished from Irv Higdon in 2003, so I can't imagine they could be shrinking already.
It just happened out of the blue after nearly six years of peerless service. Suggestions, please!

Even if the ST1200 is fixed speed AC, there must be components related to setting that speed at a certain rpm, perhaps some capacitor in that circuit has dried out? Or oil on the drive belts?
The ST1200 range use a fixed speed AC Synchronous motor. This means that the speed is fixed to the mains frequency and there fore cant be changed except by changing the size of the drive pulleys etc.
Speed variations on these machines will always be down to worn drive rollers or tight or slipping belts. Check all the rubber components for wear and cleanliness. These rubber belts and drive rollers go soft and eventually sticky with age so make sure that is not now happening.
