I know that Elmo reel is an excellent item,

http://cgi.ebay.com/1200-ELMO-SUPER-8MM-FILM-REEL_W0QQitemZ110430483887QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item19b62b75af&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14

But $66 9still 20 minutes to go) does sound to much for me.

I saw last week an EByaer offered many of his films in that kind of reel (+ the same box too) which ended at around $40sh.

What you think guys?

I don't know a whole lot about 8mm but, from what I've observed these are sought after items and do sometimes go for quite a high price.

Winbert,

I also saw the recent ebay seller who had quite a few films he was selling and they where all on these 1200' Elmo reels.

I saw some of the auctions end pretty reasonable considering the digest compilations on them plus the Elmo reel.

$66 is a bit much. I have one of these reels and it is very nice. It runs true and is lightweight.(aluminum)

Since I only have one I don't store anything on it I just use it for shows. Feed or take-up.

Bill

The Elmo 1200ft reel is quite simply the best reel I have ever used - lightweight non-magnetic Aluminum alloy, and very true running, and they have that special hub material which really grabs the film leader. In comparison, I hate the heavy magnetic Goldberg 1200ft steel reels.

For who it may concern theres a compañy in Spain,in Barcelona that made almost the same reel as elmo in lightweight aluminum alloy, the name of the compañy is Julio Castells,he made reels and cans completely on aluminum and made long play units and automatic rewind benchs too at very good prices, almost all the spanish collector buy from him the reels and can to store our films.here is a photo taking from the spanish super 8mm forum that shows the reels and a little the long play unit for s-8 that can take more than 2 hours of continuos projection

Jose,

I could use some large reels for my long play unit.
How much are those reels and how does one buy them?

Claus.

In the UK most dealers tend to sell the Elmo 1200ft spools for about £12 -15 each which I personally think is a reasonable price.

If you sell features to the dealers they will invariably spool them down onto 600 foot spools so they can sell the 1200 footers seperately (more profit).

This is an interesting topic because sometimes when I have offered features for sale on the forum people have said "oh your price is to high" but then they dont take into account the Elmo 1200ft spools they are mounted on and indeed dont want to either. They only ever look at the cost of the film itself. I have probably lost loads of dosh where Elmo spools are concerned. Maybe its time to put any films for sale on to cores and sell the spools seperately especially as the Elmo spools are more difficult to find now.

A Google search found the 8mm spanish film forum, but nothing on Julio Castells. I'd like more information on his long play unit.

Anyone?

That longplay unit looks wonderful, I too like to find out more, I want it! I use a 16mm Eiki longplayunit with 8mm adaptors now, but I'd love to have one of these.

Wonderful! Now even the GS 1200 can top the Fumeo performance in terms of non-stop screening.
But from what I see in the picture, if you keep the film path that way, you will scratch its base as it keeps passing on a 50' reel core before getting into the projector. I think you should find a solution featuirng some sort of roller.

I dunno guys. If that girl in the picture runs the projector, it might be hard to keep my eyes on the screen. And there are two reasons:

1. See how full that upper reel is. When it's on the lower reel, the film will scratch on the Elmo projector housing cover (look at the film near the final take up roller)

2. Do I really have to tell you what the 2nd reason is? [Big Grin]

Hi Claus
the cost of the reel made by Julio castell is about 25-30 euros for a 600 meters reel, normally he sells the reel with a aluminum can if you want.I own a long play unit made by him and its wonderfull the only problem maybe is the drive belt that is made of iron but if you use a polycord belt as a substitute works great.

"if you keep the film path that way, you will scratch its base as it keeps passing on a 50' reel core before getting into the projector. I think you should find a solution featuirng some sort of roller.

Maurizio"
Hi Mauricio, yes you are rigth, the 50 feet reel is just for the photo, normally the projection is made with a small aluminum reel that is put in the feed arm.
The long play unit cost is about 200 euros in 2006

Chip, dear forum friend, try to put the number 34 as Keith sugested,34 is the international phone code for spain.

I finally got the number to work.

They answered in French. No matter how many times I asked, no translator available.

Jose can you help me with this?

All I want to know is how much is that take up unit for large reels, is it compatible with USA voltage and can they sell only the take up unit not the upper supply reel holder.

If anyone here can help me with the basic information that would be great.

Hi,

"in French"? That's strange - as the shop is located in Barcelona, I would have expected them to speak Spanish (Castilian) or Catalan (or both)... [Big Grin]

Well, first of all my apologies to chip and forum members for not post the answer of Mr. Castell this two days ago but im very very busy this two days because we receive more than 500 new films from a late collector and i was in the process of cleaning, inspecting etc.Well for all who is interested Mr. castell still ake all kind of reel from small to really biger sizes, prices depending on the size of course..10 euros for a 180 meter aluminum with can and 70 euros for a 2000 meters aluminum rell..yes im ot made a mistake i order one of it monday morning to store my print of "gone with the wind".

Dear Chip about your questions...he told me that he only sell the complete unit and for the moment the unit is only avaliable on 220V for european countries because is almost imposible for him to find a correct motor who works at 110-120V in Spain. The price for the long play unit is about 300 euros now.

IF someone want to know someting more about this i can help if you cant speak spanish.just give a little time to call Mr. Castells here in Spain and i try to help all of you with all your question

Thats all folks! [Big Grin]
