Hi there..I recently inherited a gaf 3000s as well as a number of super 8 family films, splicers, film editor etc. I am new to projectors and this kind of equipment, although I am familiar with SLR cameras and photography. I am determined to try and get this equipment up and running. When switched on the projector runs forwards and reverse. The speed control also seems to be working and frame rate as well,although the bulb is burnt out. I also noticed the lamphouse is also missing. Would this make it unsafe to run film? The speaker has feedback,I am missing a microphone at present and can't test this further yet. I have checked the belts and the rubber one seems ok but the wire spring belt seem loose but it does power the gears. Is the machine worth putting time and effort into or is it beyond saving. My feeling is no but I need some guidance on this one. I have included some pics. I have resized the pics, if any other pics are needed I can load more....thanks for your help, Im looking forward to some suggestions.

Hello Kevin....I have a GAF 3100S that is just about the same. These are actually made by CHINON. It is a smooth running quiet projector and I use mine for transfers due to the varible speed control. I think it would be worth it to get running but you may want to research the bulb prices to see if it is worth it to you. These use a DNE bulb.

It looks like you just need the lamp cover and bulb. The metal spring belts being loose should not be an issue. I would use a test film (something that is not important) to run through it first. You could run a film through it just to make sure that everything is ok without the lamp. I would also clean the film path free of dirt and debris with alcohol.

Thanks for the encouragement Bill...Will it be safe to run film without the lamphouse(once I have purchase a bulb..have looked on ebay and found them in the 20 to 30 range)or will this damage the film.
Any idea on what the dimensions of the lamphouse might be, I was thinking of going into a sheet metal shop and having one made...

That sound great...one thing, as I was looking over my drawing I noticed a mistake...the top right hand 2 5/8" should be 1 5/8"

I hope you can get the projector up and running.

Hey just a quick note ....I picked up my new lamphouse today ,it fits just fine....The only thing I need to do is drill the holes and wait for the bulb..I have included a couple of pics....thanks for all your help bill

Looking good! Just make sure when you mount it you leave a little space at the front...don't fit it right up against where the shutter is. Here is another picture and you can see the space.

I am amazed you guys are working with unit system, while I get used with metric system.

I cannot imagine how you guys measure for (the exact) 1 5/8" with a ruler. Isn't it easier to say 41mm instead?

Can someone explain.

The measurement system we use is irrelevant. We don't "measure 1 5/8 inch with a ruler" and even if we did that would be just as accurate as "measuring 41mm with a ruler" as long as the rulers were accurately made! If we are making something out of metal we would measure "1 5/8" inch as 1.625 inch with a precision vernier calliper and mark it with a very sharp pointed scribe.
By the way "1 5/8 inch" is 1.625 inch... which if you insist on using "mm" is actually 41.28 mm. You are out by 0.28 mm!
Which method is more accurate now????
