.

Hello,

I am looking for thick, stiff, brown card boxes for 400ft 16mm reels.

This is a rigid, one piece cardboard box. It does not have a separate lid.

Please see attached images.

Are these still made? If so, where can they be purchased?

Or does anyone have any spare they wish to offload?

Thanks.
.

Hi,

Wittner is still selling "35mm - Kartonagen":
http://wittner-cinetec.com/katalog/01_archi/d_karton.php
However it doesn't look like they do have similar boxes for 16mm...

But if you're willing to order 500 boxes at once, you should visit Tayloreel's webpage:
http://www.tayloreel.com/micro.html

Jörg
P.S.: Maybe you can simply use one of those paperboard containers for CDs, DVDs, LPs, wine-bottles, folders, ... as sold in post-offices and stationery shops? E.g. something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Record-Cardboard-Multi-Depth-Mailers-12BC01VD/dp/B001J595HY
or these:

Hi Den,
slightly leftfield but you could try ordering pizza boxes like these

http://www.bagnboxman.co.uk/acatalog/pizza-boxes-foodsafe.html

given they are typically 40mm deep, they would hold two reels.

A friend of mine who made novelty clocks sent them in these sort of boxes so they are quite robust (and inexpensive)

Den,
Your scans look just like the ones from a batch of boxes that were made at the request of Elizabethan Film Services a few years ago, and sold by them. I ordered stacks of their 1600' and 2000' boxes but they also had 400' ones made. I don't know if they have any left. I think this is probably their number but let me know if I'm wrong: 01204 521910

E.F.S. used to sell lots of them but not any more.

Thanks.

PS: I have loads of old films in boxes like this. I am surprised they were made at special request. I assumed it was a generic film box.

It is a generic film box. And it is still produced (with slightly different colours) and sold by Tayloreel (s. link in my previous answer). The only problem is that Tayloreel only sells cartons that contain 500 of theses boxes. And it sounds like you only need ten (or even less) of these boxes.

The EFS stock was definitely a special order, but maybe they were ordering boxes that the manufacturer had previously made in relation to other orders. Unfortunately, whenever I've heard of new cardboard 16mm boxes being available in the UK, it has always been a dealer needing to order far more than any individual collector would want.

Tayloreel sell chipboard boxes, not the same as those I seek. They call the material chipboard, we'd just call it card. The ones they stock are widely available.

I am looking for cardboard (or corrugated card), it is much more rigid - and brown.

......getting back to my previous post, any sources you might know for 8mm boxes-either 600' or 800'? Or am I asking for too much?

Yanis, are you referring to simple white cardboard boxes?

Yes Gian Luca, the ones that DERANN used to sell not so long ago;it's been awhile that those, especially the nice 800' ones stopped being produced;since then I'm trying to find alternatives for storing 800' films in a weight-and-space saving way;like two in a plastic 16mm can.....

I got it. Thought they were still available.
I don't have any 800' (I suppose you'd use for 16mm), but let me know if you need some 600' (for free, of course).
Ciao.

Grazie Gian Luca, [Smile]
right now I don't think I need any,but good to know there are some around; obviously asking further for too much now,but would you happen to have any of those big 600' cardboxes that DERRANN used to sell, & could take 4x600 reels? Don't know if there are still any left....

ciao per ora,
