In tribute to a great company, how about if we all state what Derann films we are happy to own. I'll start.

The Fog (1X600)
Alien (feature)
Poltergeist (feature)
Star Wars (feature, first day of release, personally signed by Darth Vader! Take that Kevin Faulkner!)

(I personally have a happy antoagonism with Kevin because HE owns a copy of CE3K from Derann, GRRRR!)

Plus an enormous collection of cartoons released by Derann!

Actually, if I was to include optical sound features that I've bought from Derann, the number would be a good deal higher, but I was just including ones that were actually manufactured by Derann. For instance, I have "Logan's Run" which I bought from Derann, but was a Kempski print.

Hey, I work a lot, just a lot is poured forth on living expenses around here. I've been pretty lucky though, most of my features I've bought I've bought at a bargain price, and the super 8 opticals usually tend to be a lot less in cost, which is another reason why I buy them. For instance, I just bought "Children of a Lesser God" and "Rocky 3" on super 8 optical film for 75.00 dollars each, so, I've been lucky.

I had no idea "Children of a Lesser God" was out on optical. Have the colors in general on your opticals been holding up?

Yes, the colors on "Children of a Lesser God" are great! As usual, the picture is sparkling. I love optical sound. That brings my total to, I believe, 33 optical sound features, with only two having slightly fading color.

Sorry, no trade for Rocky 3, (but I admire your sense of humor), the best thing about Derann films is thier use of superior stock. Of course, like all companies, earlier on they used inferior Eastman (a long LONG time ago, on a continent far far away!), but all these modern prints, for about the last, what, twenty years?, have been Eastman LPP stock, (or fuji stock as well?), which means these prints will outlast thier owners, (in most cases, as most super 8 collectors are over 30 or so!)

Hi Brian,
great collection... and I thought I was the only horror collector on this forum. I have most of the Mountain horror releases but I have never come across "The Monster of Piedras Blancas" in 4x400ft Super 8 sound. It is a very hard title to find. Maybe only a few features were sold but I have been looking for years and it never shows up. Likewise your "Wasp Woman" is a difficult feature to get in Super 8. I sold my print years ago when I thought that video was the future of "Home Cinema" and have always regretted it. Luckily I have got back most of the films I foolishly got rid of in the 80's.
Derann, Walton and Powell Films between them released all of the classic British horror films, but Mountain were great for all those classic PRC and RKO titles as well as minor classics from Europe and the Philippines. Also as most of their films were in black and white they are still in great condition.
Luckily the mainstay of every Super 8 distributors lists were the horror and sci-fi movies so we are happily spoilt for choice with titles.

Hi Doug,
yes you are quite right. I looked back over the film reviews section and a fair percentage of the reviews have been for horror sci-fi and fantasy films. And with a membership of well over 600 people there has to be more than a few of us out there.
