I know "Mystery of Mary Celeste" was released as a full-feature by either Blackhawk or Niles, or both perhaps. It pops up pretty regularly on Ebay and Used lists. Good luck tracking it down.

Wasn't the "Mary Celeste" an early sound film? British in origin, I think.

Yes, the film was sound - it's been on my "must see" list for years but reviews saying it's incredibly slow and boring have scared me off it a bit. I should probably give it a go just for historical reasons - since I love Hammer Films and Bela Lugosi how could the two together be bad?

It was released in 1935, in England as "Mystery of the Marie Celeste," and in the US as "Phantom Ship." The movie is a fictionalized explanation for the real-life mystery of the ship that was found at sea with nobody on board. Bela's pretty good in it.

Your right Tom.

One thing to keep in mind with modern reviews on the internet and such, is that most films from many years ago have a slower pace than now, where everything on screen must run at breakneck speed.

"Lawrence of Arabia", by todays modern person, is incredibly boring. To the trained eye, it's magnificent.

Now, I haven't seen "Mary Celeste", but just the chance to see "Ole Bela" in a non-dracula/mad scientist role, would be quite nice.

Back on topic, I've never heard of any Bela silent movies on Super 8mm. Maybe checking out obscure Blackhawk titles might yeild some fruit?
