On my Eumig S938 stereo, sound from track two is nowhere as clear as that from track one, despite cleaning. To be honest though, when set to stereo mode, sound really is pretty good overall. If a new head is needed...does anyone have one?

Simon, isn't that second track always like that due to the different wide of magnetic stripe between main track and balance track (hence also different head size resulting lower gain on 2nd track).

I'm hoping so! But, if needed, where (if anywhere!) could I find a new head?

Simon,
Eumig adjusted the gain on both tracks at the factory so that the sound recording and playback level was equally loud on both tracks. If the sound is weak on the balanace track, you can compensate by moving the playback balance control. If the balance track head is severely worn (and it always wears out first) then the only solution is to find a replacement sound head.

But should a new head be needed...where do I get one?

Most likely, you'll have to salvage machines with the same head: most suitable are model 926, 936, 938 and 940. Good luck!
