Just curious about a subject ...

I have for the longest time, been using an old Mollier "Anamorphat" scope lense for projecting my super 8 films. While it has been functional and has worked OK, I have my suspicions that a scope lense made specifically for super 8, will give better results ...

Therefore ....

Can anybody do a test of the different film guage scope lenses, and does a super 8 scope lense actually give a better picture than a 35MM projecting a scope image?

Although I don't have a scope lens yet but my logic says:

1. Bigger format lens will need a long throw projections as all 35mm projector is designed doing that. As a result, if we use 35mm scope lens for a short throw, there are two possible options:

  • a. Make the projection on the min zoom, hence small picture on screen
    b. or set the lens into max zoom but will result vignetting because the light will hit the edge of lens.
2. Scope lens for 35mm is longer and has thicker lens. This obviously will reduce amount of light more than a designated lens for 8mm which is shorter.

cheers,

That's a good point about "less light" due to thick lenses, I hadn't thought of that.
