I had been paying a scanning service to scan my Super8 and 16mm films, and the results were great.
But the cost of course was rather high, so a few years ago I started building a scanning rig. It has been through a lot of iterations, but I now have a flashscan system that uses a 2.8MP Point Grey camera to capture frame by frame, but in real time. The results are better than any of the pro services I used, so I am very happy with it.
Has anyone else built a telecine or scanning rig to archive their films?

I use an old t.v. station projector when I want to put something on YouTube or sometimes I'll transfer films for friends who want a digital version of their films for frequent viewing.

For super quality stuff, I send it out to be transferred.
