I've just bought a 'working' Eumig P8 Novo off Ebay ..

The drive belt is fabric wound round a rubber ring and is knotted ... think of a wound wire guitar string. Not the original equipment I suspect!

I have looked around for belts and there are a few available but tend to be pricey.

I wondered if anyone had made their own using O ring rubber and glueing with cyanoacrylate super glue?

Many years ago I always used a rubber sealing ring from the top of a Kilner preserving jar which only cost pennies.

I believe they are still made.

It's really not worth the hassle to make your own belt. You need to find a place that sells O-rings; they usually have all different sizes and the price is not high at all - for a P8 you shouldn't pay more than 2 Pounds. I have a place close to me that sells spare parts for cars and other machinery and they have racks filled with different O-rings. The only problem: you have to tell them the exact size.

I recall someone stating that had done just that...the trick is to cut the rubber at a 45 degree angle. I have never had luck with super glue in high stress situations though. But with a stretched belt difficult to find, it might be worth a try... to cut it slightly shorter and then re-glue.

Thanks all for your advice. I think I will look around for what options there are. I think I will give the glueing option a try. Perhaps a tenon type joint would provide the biggest area for glue.
