Hi everyone.

Just curious- how many reels from Ken Films had alternate/different footage based on reel size?

For example- the original 200' Star Wars reel had an extra/longer scene with Ben and Luke that did not show up on the 400' reel of the same film.

Were others done like this? The 400' Superman also had a few extra snippets that the 3x400 did not.

I think the STAR WARS situation happened mainly because the 200' was edited first, then the 400' was done months later. (There are actually two bits of extra footage on the 200' IIRC.) Didn't they also release a 200' of the "PATTON speech" footage that was not included on the 400'?

Yes, they did! (Patton), and that 200ft reel is quite hard to find. It doesn't come up for sale too often.

And let's not forget Kens' reedit of "The Sound of Music" with some scenes substituted for others. So it is possible to obtain the original 1977 edit and combine it with the 1978 reedit for approx. one additional minute if it is worth your effort.

Chad,

As Marshall said, the Star Wars 200 footer was released first, so it is one of the few Ken Films digests to include different footage from its big brother.

When Ken released the 200' silent two part Ten Commandments, they put different scenes in the 50' editions.

Castle changed their 200' Son of Frankenstein to include other scenes.

Columbia had two different edits of the 400' Cat Ballou and the four part Golden Voyage of Sinbad. Since it was years between the releases of the 200' & 400' versions of 20 Million Miles to Earth, Cowboy, Earth vs. The Flying Saucers, and The Mad Magician, the shorter digests had different footage.
Columbia also released a 50 footer that was different from their 200' Battle In Outer Space.
