I have ran into a number of Three Stooge shorts on LPP film stock (having a slightly bluish quality to that glorious black and white), and I'm just curious as to who could have re-leased these on super 8?

I highly doubt that it was Columbia as, while the quality is very good, it's not quite up to the standards of the official Columbia Stooge shorts. These tend to be titles that weren't released (as far as I know), by Columbia pictures officially.

Then there is the LPP film stock, which denotes a late 1982 and beyond dating for these, so I am most curious (and happy, now that I have yet another curious adventure in Super 8!)

Actually, as a part of this new series of posts, would someone be so kind as to make as complete of a list of the Stooge shorts, (full length, mind you, we already know about the 200ft digest versions).

If the prints come from US I would hazard a guess that maybe Jef Films might have released them as public domain prints. If they come from UK I would say DCR Films released them. They were based on the Isle of Wight and run by Dave West. He always stamped his boxes with his name and address and always cleaned each film he sold with 2.22 cleaner before he sent them out. Very personal service from Dave who ran the company virtually alone. The reason I say DCR is I know his later prints like Night to Remember and 39 Steps were black and white films printed on colour stock and they always had a blue tint and were slightly softer than Derann. If you see any sepia prints Perry's released them the Laurel and Hardy Any Old Port being an example of their work.
The only other dealer I can think of would be Movieland International I know they released Betty Boop and Little Rascal type material but can't recall Three Stooges being on their lists. I have a old catalogue somewhere and will check for you.

Thank you very much Mike for that awesome knowledge! I'll never claim to be the end all of super 8 knowledge, as these were a total mystery to me!

Some of the titles (Color stock versions) are as follows ...

I'll Never Heil again
Violent is the Word for Curly (with that cool "alphabet" song)
Oily to Bed Oily to Rise

DCR - I had a sharp print of I'LL BUILD IT MYSELF (trying to find it again) - Now that it was mantioned, JEF might have released some of the Stooges - I had a few sepia-tinted ones, like POP GOES THE EASEL, but sold that and the others in lieu for the original B&Ws from Columbia - As to a list; WOMAN HATERS, THREE LITTLE PIGSKINS (Dave Thomas had this many years back), HOI POLLOI, THREE LITTLE BEERS, POP GOES THE EASEL, UNCIVIL WARRIORS, DISORDER IN THE COURT (Niles, and also a sepia that I recall), TASSELS IN THE AIR, THREE SAPPY PEOPLE, BOOBS IN ARMS, AN ACHE IN EVERY STAKE, DUTIFUL BUT DUMB, IN THE SWEET PIE & PIE, DIZZY PILOTS, THREE PESTS IN A MESS, MICROPHONIES, FRIGHT NIGHT, VAGABOND LOAFERS, THREE DARK HORSES, PARDON MY BACKFIRE (3-D), PARDON MY CLUTCH - Must be others - There were 200' editions, 15 in all, all silent except STUDIO STOOPS & WE WANT OUR MUMMY - Shorty

I've also stumble across a few of the JEF two-reel Stooges. In addition to the previously mentioned "I'll Never Heil," Violent is the Word," and "Boobs in Arms," I also snagged "Dizzy Doctors." Would love to find any others.

Did they ever release YOU NAZTY SPY or A'PLUMBING WE WILL GO? I'm still astounded Columbia never released those -- that would have been a no-brainer for me.

I agree Joseph! It's seem insane to let such a great Curley Classic go un-released!

Were any of the Joe Besser's released on super 8? I wouldn't mind finding one of them. I know that Stooge purists tend to frown on those last few years of the shorts, but I was always fond of Joe.

More than equally rare on super 8 is the incredibly rare (anywhere, any format) of "Kooks Tour", which was a 3X400ft Niles release ... and in color! (Thought on most prints, the color has faded on this).

I had Kook's on a 400' edition from Niles, the 3X400' version was around but concentrated my money on other shorts and such back when - I'll still look for it though, Shorty

I have a fondness for "Kook's" as it was largely filmed here in Idaho! (The first episode concentrated on the Stooges going all over and finding the best fishing holes, with Larry never catching anything, and even the dog catching fish!)

there must be some landmarks in your area for research, interviewing anyone, perhaps there's a paper or dissertation you could write about it
