Was this Ed Wood film ever released on Super 8 or 16mm?

Janice,

Plan 9 was released as both a 200 footer and a slightly abridged 4x400' version by Heritage Films.

Hi Janice

The answer unfortunately is Yes. Don't know about 16mm but definitely Super 8 and I believe Standard 8 released abridged 4x400 versions. The Super 8 print I saw was absolutely awful but then that sort of matches the content. Believe it or not it is a high demand title for collectors just below Star Wars in popularity lol.

At least it is not the worst movie in the world The R*** has that infamous honor [Wink]

Thanks Doug and Mike for the info...The appeal of Plan 9 is a conundrum for sure to why it would be in such demand. However, it is so hysterically bad... it's good [Smile] Doesn't look like I'll be affording any of these prints soon, but was curious if they existed.

I know there are 16mm prints out there; I attended Cal Arts in 1980 and it was shown nearly every weekend at the campus theatre.

I just thought it must be a matter of time before they remake Plan 9 but it apparently has already been remade as a zombie alien movie http://youtu.be/pwDOqsu0GZw

Janice - Yes the prints Doug mentioned are out there... but even better is the completely uncut Red Fox prints that were made domestically. The Mountain release from the UK cut out the key scene of Bela Lugosi picking the rose outside his home -the key piece of film that started the whole project.

I just watched the trailer from the link above .... I'm thinking it is VERY loosely based on the original!
Unless my memory has failed me or at the time of watchng the original I did not retain the actual plot [Big Grin] [Smile]

There's also a Heritage 400' version that I have and the quality of mine isn't bad. However be warned that it's extremely short for a 400' release - only something like 12 minutes, so it's not a great deal longer than the 200'.

Janice Its certainly around on 16mm as I had the feature for some time and a popular view. Also had the Red Fox full length 8mm release....as you do... which was very nice secured many moons ago. Not film I know the Blu-Ray which contains a excellent scan of the 35mm print is worth having.

Ed Wood was a inspiration to many young film makers including myself decades ago, we just love him. [Cool]
