Now that there is hardly any 35mm prints being made today, I was wondering (in theory, only!) if there was a way to use 4k Blu-ray's in making a 16mm inter-neg, I know in the past with releases in the old days, of transfers from tapes to 8mm (I know a couple of Elvis concerts and the Electric Blue releases came off video), just thought I'd get the forum's ideas on the subject, personally I have no idea if it is possible!

Hi Barry, yes it is possible as asked about it, but its even more expensive than a usual neg from 35mm process.

But it can be done.

Be good to do say a 600 footer edited on HD, then made into a neg.

Myself I think they do look very filmic as well but I did also hear results can be mixed.

A direct from HD to possitive/print stock would be the best option really. .

Best Mark.

Using the same logic, once you have the proper set-up you may bypass the negative and go directly to the positive print. Less costs and better quality. The point is to have a proper cinema camera interlocked with the blue ray projector, with good magazine capacity.
