I love seeing the projectors setup and the boxes of films on the tables. It's like a candy store [Smile] Like Gerald... I wish we could do something like this in California. However... it's wonderful that those that do attend have such a great time and Claus's photos and narration gives us that can't attend a little flavor of the event. Thanks Claus!

It's too bad that David Guest does not have his own British clone of Claus to do an equivalent superb photo essay on the Northern Film Convention in Blackpool. Reportedly a truly wonderful event, it has sadly never been documented in anything close to the manner that Claus has routinely done for Cinesea.

AHHHH ....

I saw that picture of "The Quiet Man". How was the color on that copy? It is rumored that there were some low fade print of it!

Osi,

Very slight fade, however there is a yellowish cast to it and it is grainy.

Should i ever win the lotto i will be there, and i have to say ,(& i have said it before), i so wish i could turn the clock back 35 years, i would have attended Ealing and Blackpool so many times. We were all much too young then to ever take full advantage of those conventions.

Many that were enjoying them to the full back then are very very sadly, no longer with us.
They were at a different stage of life and at very different and more vibrant times surrounding this hobby than we are now left with.

We were bringing up our new families in our new homes with far greater priorities during those halcyon days of the 90's.
Films were the very least of our priorities no matter what the driving force for this hobby.

Don't beat yourself up my friend, all we can do is enjoy the very best of what is left from those days now in these twilight years for our hobby, and now, we find ourselves at a similar stage of life that those guys were back then, having an absolute ball and loving it to the full!

Well as far as I am concerned this hobby just gets better by the day. And I think part of that feeling is the knowledge that these films and projectors really have value, not necessarily in just a monetary sense, but from the fact that they truly are a great link to the reel cinema of the past. I find it extremely satisfying to be able to pull say a classic MGM musical off my film shelf and show it being projected in exactly the manner of over 100 years ago. Am I proud of my reel film collection and projection gear? You bet - there is no one else that I know of in my neck of the woods that has anything like it, so it is an immediate conversation piece for anyone visiting our home. And yes, I am at that point of life when I can indulge myself in all aspects of this amazing hobby.
