I have a Bell & Howell 1639C Multi-Motion Dual 8 projector. When I load the film in the forward position, the image is very slow, choppy and stuttery at all speeds. After it has wound onto the take-up take-up reel for a time, I tried the projector in reverse, and in reverse mode, the projector presents a nice steady image.
What could be going on here?

do you have the proper setting set for the format of film your using 8mm for 8mm and super 8 for super 8? could be that the film did not load properly your loops are not right? make sure you trim the end of the film before loading.
