I would very surprised if you could get a print for less than £300, unless it's faded or damaged. I have been looking for a print of "The Lion King" and so far the cheapest I've seen it go for is 175 GBP, and I think that's less in demand than Alien.

Well who’s on first? Yeah. Go ahead and tell me. Who. The guy on first. Who. The guy playin’ first base. Who. The guy on first. Who is on first! What are you askin’ me for? I’m askin’ you!

I'd have no problem paying 300 GBP for it ... But it needs to be in decent shape though ... Anyone?

Thanks, Christian

I sold an excellent print of Alien for $1000 (£630) last summer.

At that price I'd expect Sigourney Weaver.

Amazing these prices. Four years ago I bought Alien..perfect print ..for $250. gorgeous re-recorded stereo... lovely print. and no..unless I was desolate and needing money in the worst way, I would NEVER part with that film.

I never really liked "Alien" (I'm not a alien-monster-movie kind of person), so if I stumble across one I'll make sure to let you know, Vidar [Wink]

Vidar,my advice, for what it's worth, would be to seek out a print on 16mm rather than pay extortionate sums for an 8mm version.
The 16mm is going to have better print quality anyway.

You’ll find US prices are much higher than the UK for sure Vidar which is why so many Uk films wind up in the US. Same thing could be said for the vintage film gauge 9.5mm as the French will happily pay a high price. Example: Robocop full length Derann sold in the Uk for £70 on a bring & buy at a film event, Gone with the Wind full length original boxes sold at Blackpool FCC a little over a year ago for £130. Another thing to keep in mind is the ‘retro brigade’ who collect for the boxes and even equipment. Prices are up as retro seems to be in at the moment probably as we have reached a generation change with all the modern technology vs old. We were talking about this only last Sunday, but at the end of the day it all depends how much you want something I guess. As we all get older I think we all start to get a bit nostalgic which is certainly the case with me.

Same with me Lee, perusing old movie magazines and wishing
those old cine companies were still with us. I suppose nostalgia
does take it's hold, but then common sense rears it's head and
asks the question, do I really want to pay over the odds for a
particular film that only interests me.As you rightly say some
folks are mainly after the boxes, me the films the thing, boxes
are okay, but the film is more desirable.

Interesting point, Hugh, about 16mm versus high-priced 8mm. I don't see myself paying 1000$ for ANY movie, no matter how good the print is. You can have most of them on Bluray for a dime anyway, so I'll keep a healthy perspective on prices. I mean, yes it's a movie, but it's only a movie. A decent 16mm print for a quarter price of the 8mm super-scope-stereo-nolines-blastingcolors-print is a very valuable argument if you love movies and still want to be able to feed your dog. I suppose it's open to subjectivity, but anything over 300-400$ seems (to me) over the top. Unless Weaver is included, as the man says [Big Grin]

Wouldn't mind a 16mm print ... Anyone has one of those for a decent price then?

Oh, by the way, does the full length Alien come in boxes made for it specifically and were they originally on 400' spools?

I love Sigorney Weaver. She is very tall, has a great figure, and is still very attractive at 64! Nuff said [Wink]

Yes that's true Lee,we're all getting old,but some of these older
actresses can still be very sexy, and I for one wouldn't mind the
chance to make a fool of myself with them, as for the ones that
have put on a bit of weight, I can make a chalk mark where I
left off while I have a cup of tea and get my breath back.

The 16's I've seen of Alien can't hold a candle to the low fade scope /stero super 8 print. 1. most of the 16's are fading, if not faded. 2. most of the 16's are flat 3. ALL of the 16's are mono.
Now there may be a low fade scope 16 out there, but if so, you may be sure that it will sell for a VERY high price as well.

Yes..some 16's are sharper....some not.

I can live with flat and mono ... Would prefer as good as possible color of course. I'd be willing to buy a lower quality one, but not at 300 GBP

I am on the lookout for a scope lens, so scope would be okay, but for now, I can not see it properly. Can not seem to find a decently priced scope lens. I have a standalone bracket which should take 50-52 size I was told. None of the shops have them, asked I8, CHC, Buckingham and another one or two. One said they were common, but being a bit unsure of what I can use for my Elmo ST-1200D MO and 16mm Bauer P7 Synchro, I'd be scared to find one on eBay to find it didn't fit.
