It is the cineovision print. Colour nowhere as nice as the Derann.
The Derann one is missing the Greedo subtitles because the international negative had no 'burned in' subtitles, and I'm guessing that is what Derann used for their master.

Not cineavison. It isn't an official version, but by all accounts it is pretty good.

Yeah It's not an 'official' Cineavision print but printed in the Cineavision style of 2.35:1 Pillarbox in the 2.66:1 Super 8mm CinemaScope frame.

Absolutely correct regarding the lack of 'open captions' on the Derann Star Wars Feature it originates from an International Negative 16mm reduction.

Like that description Pillerboxed, I do like the old 'Cinevision' format that gave you the correct 35mm frame. The super 8 scope was called 'letterboxed' too narrow and cropped top & bottom.

I did hold off buying some films because they were not in the scope format though. Some transferred to non scope OK, but most were poor.

Lucky to have all three Star Wars films from Derann.

I cant help noticing but collectors who have both prints seem to sell the Cineavison print but keep the Derann print. My only thought is that collectors prefer the better colour on the Derann prints over the subtitles and correct screen ratio of the cineavison print. Just my thoughts.

I had both and having the Cinevesion print was interesting but when compared I feel the Derann Version is sharper, more saturated, and is just a much better print.
But if you don't have the Derann version ANY Star Wars feature is better than nothing. [Smile]

It's hard to describe but when I was watching the Cinevision Print I was always reminded it was Super 8. But when watching the Derann print I felt like I was that kid back in that darkened theater many moons ago.

Now I have both scope versions. I didn't get this because I thought it was a comparable print to Derann, only because it really IS the 1977 version of the film and not the already altred one, (which, while great, the Derann print was, that is, altered).

By the way, for a "pirated" print, the image quality is quite good. I don't understand the thought about not thinking the Derann print wasn't a "super", I've always had that feeling myself.

Do you mean it wasn't like watching Super 8?
That means you need to get an Elmo GS1200 and a Rectimascope Lens, re-record in Stereo and then project at least a 10ft screen. Then you will see what I mean. [Smile]

Even better if you have a Xenon light source. Titanic Super 8 feature looks really stunning as well. I think the Cinevision print I owned looked a little more washed out, not as sharp as the Derann version and had more grain. I screened the entire film and then moved it along and kept the Derann version.
