I have just bought "A Haul In One" from Michael. In a PM between us Michael told me he crosses into Germany to post his films as it is cheaper there than in Switzerland!

I must congratulate Michael on the way he lists his films on eBay. Condition, colour, original box, etc. The copy of the Popeye cartoon I recently bought, "A Haul In One" (1956) was described under colour as A, his highest grade. Indeed it was. It was on Agfa stock which has lost none of its colour over the years.

Film Office, like many continental companies change the titles. In this case it is "Popeye & Bluto Demenageurs" which translates as "Popeye & Bluto Removal Men". A very apt title which a direct translation of its US title would probably not reveal the clever play on words. At least they kept Popeye and Bluto."

A further interesting thing is that Film Office kept the original English sound which would probably not help a French buyer unless he understood English.

Michael travels to Germany from his home in Switzerland to use the facilities of Deutsche Poste which I must say are fantastic. The film was posted last Friday and reached me on the next Monday. The same time that a Christmas Card reached me that had been posted 40 miles from me!

Thank you, Michael.

Thank you, Maurice, for your kind words!
I am very happy that you are satisfied with the film I sent you.
I always try to describe my offerings as accurate as possible.
I am amazed about the service of the Deutsche Post! In Switzerland, it would have been more expensive und the film would probably have been under way for weeks!
Best regards - and have a look in my shop,
Michael

And if we use Deutche Post for international, it is actually done by DHL. There is a flat rate EUR 15.90 to max 2 Kg.

Although we choose a non-traceable service (the cheapest) but there is none of DHL services without tracking. They can still trace it should it get lost in transit. They just don't give the tracking numbers to us to distinguish the service with the traceable ones.

cheers,

Michael
"Pinkadilly Circus" says it has effects and music, however, there is a reference to German subtitles.
Do I assume the main Film Office title in French also has words in German? And this is only on the main title?

Hello Maurice,
the copy of "Pinkadilly Circus" I sell has its original sound.
There is an english title card with german subtitles.
German subtitles also appear whenever there's a written sign in the picture (such as "flour" on a box for example). There are only few subtitles throughout the cartoon and they only translate written words.
It is quite strange for a film distributed by a french company to have german subs. But the same film was also distributet by the german company "Picccolo Film" - and I guess "Film Office Paris" had access to the same source material.
I hope this answers your question...

A very interesting explanation. An unusual co-operation between Film Office and a competitor company.

Michael
"Pinkadilly Circus" has such a good write up on the Internet Movie Data Base, so I have decided to add it to my collection, particularly as you have given the copy an 'A' in each category.
I look forward to viewing it.

Michael, one of your popeye has excellent color:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/BRANDN EU-BRAND-NEW-Popeye-Cartoon-FOR-BETTER-OR-NURSE-Super8-color-sound-/131105365696?pt=DE_Zelluloid&hash=item1e867d1ec0

The picture is definitely a screen shot (not a poster or a still photo somewhere). Is this taken directly from the print?

@ Winbert:
Good you ask! I should have written that it is not a screenshot.
I can't tell you about how good the color actually is because I sell the film "brand new" and I can't take it out of the box to examine it (colour is "A" after all, because the film is brand new and was printed recently).
