Superb Derann color print of one of the Look at Life featurettes from Rank Films, on one very full 200ft reel.
This one is all about the British holiday camp scene of the late 1950's, showing what was, for many people, a great inexpensive vacation. We are shown the little chalets where people were housed, scenes of night life dancing and dancing competitions, train rides and dinner in the huge cafeteria, where we are told 6,000 eggs are cooked every day! At night, parents would hang a white handkerchief on the doorknob of the chalets to show that they were out! - times have certainly changed! Then its off to the continent to see Mediteranian style holiday camps, which includes scuba diving and bikini clad girls.
Narrated by Bob Wilcox.
A great interest short.

As a footnote to your thread Paul,one of the TV channels a couple
of years ago, could have been channel 4, organised the re opening
of one of these camps and used a number of families to see if the
idea of people living and playing together 50/60s style would be
acceptable to the modern holiday maker used to jetting off to foreign climes.It began with folks being rather timid and a bit
stand offish,two young girls instantly disliked each other and
daggers were drawn.As the days passed,people warmed to one another and the two young girls became fast friends,so much
so that when the time period had elapsed for their holiday,tears
were flowing quite freely from the camp "redcoats" and the
campers themselves,especially the two girls,nobody wanted to
actually leave the camp and go home,they all had enjoyed the
two weeks so much.I have never actually been to one of these
camps but my school mates older brother was a redcoat at one
of them, and by all accounts they were great fun.
