This is another Richard Talmadge adventure starrer, from 1926.In this,he is a doctor who catches his manservant stealing his opioids,as he is a member of a drug trafficking gang. In the ensuing fight the doctor is hit unconcious and thrown in the river. He manages to come out but has lost his memory and wanders around. He is befriended by a girl running a childrens' hospital.Sometime later,"Black X", a masked bandit appears, who steals from the rich and gives to the poor, and since the rich include the head of the gang, who also want to steal the hospital's money,"the plot thickens"(!).Some things remain unexplained due to Blackhawk having acquired a badly chopped copy, from five to three reels, but with exellent picture quality. The film is of course full of Talmadge stunts, especially after "Black X" appears, taking place mainly in a poor neighborhood, among and on tall buildings, terraces, running cars etc.Ideally projected at 20-22 fps, only a climactic free-for-all is cartoonishly fast.Enjoyable cheap thrills!
Incidentally,to cover his face, instead of a mask he wears a hat with a wide brim, lowered and with two holes to see!Apparently he liked it so,that he modified it fot "The Cavallier"!!
