Recent talk about the use of scrapping certain films and the use of colour filters for improving some problem films has prompted me to post this new topic in the 16mm Forum.
Whilst I have a lot of Super 8 films the main part of my collection is 16mm, and most of my projectors are Bell & Howell.
I bought from the seller of a lens ring which was supplied with different blue filters but was not impressed. The filters were very thin and there was the constant thought of finger prints on their surface.
So here is my new set-up. I use a 62mm dark blue glass filter known as an 80A. Described as "compensates daylight type film for shooting under 3200 degrees K flood and spotlight or ordinary household lamps. Without this filter the picture will be too reddish".
I had a step-up adapter custom made for me by SRB Photographic of Dunstable. This screws into the front of the 2" Bell & Howell lens, the glass filter then screws into the adapter. Whilst not cheap I am very pleased with it.
The dark blue does cut out some of the projected light but the Bell & Howells work well and the picture on the screen is much more acceptable than without the filter.
I would only bin a print which had vinegar syndrome.
