TARGET EAGLE - Jorge Rivero, Maud Adams, Susana Dosamantes,

gang, he uses a female agent (Maud Adams) as a point of contact.
However, as he gets deeper into the gang, he discovers that there bigger
goings-on than dope. The gang is involved in the transportation of
smuggled uranium for the manufacture of nuclear arms for sale to
Libya and other aspiring third world countries. Things get even stickier
when a ruthless bad guy (George Peppard) shows up and he turns out
to be one of Eagle's former cohorts in the Foreign Legion.

MAN ON THE EIFFEL TOWER - Charles Laughton, Franchot Tone

a bit loopy. Radek offers to murder the old lady so Kirby can get his
inheritance, pay off his wife to divorce him, and marry his wife's friend.
On the night of the murder, a would-be burglar named Heurtin
stumbles upon the corpses of the old lady and her maid. Heurtin, who is
almost legally blind, loses his glasses and must be helped home by the
killer. Inspector Maigret is assigned to the case and quickly tracks down
the owner of the thick glasses. Heurtin helps identify the Radek, but
there is no real evidence against him. So begins a clever game of cat-
and-mouse, in which Radek taunts the police with clues and his dirty
money and blackmails Heurtin, then Kirby, and then Kirby's wife and
mistress into to helping him, even while Maigret is patiently tailing him,

a life sentence for murder, devises a daring plan with his wife and his

wife posing as a married couple and moving to a house near the prison.
Although the plan appears to go smoothly at first, it soon runs into a
few snags--the couple move next door to a suspicious prison guard who

CARNAL KNOWLEDGE - Jack Nicholson, Candice Bergen, Art
Garfunkel, Anne Margret, Rita Moreno, The film traces the sexual and
emotional confusion of two men from their Amherst College days in the
fifties through the Kennedy sixties, up to the Vietnam era. Jonathan
(Jack Nicholson), a successful tax attorney and Sandy (Art Garfunkel),
a physician, personify two extremes of self-delusion and self-
aggrandizement: Jonathan makes the mistake of thinking sex is love,
and embarks on a lifetime of sexual conquest; Sandy dedicates himself
to the pursuit on an idealized woman and the dreamy spiritual
completeness to be found therein. In Bobbie (Ann-Margret) Jonathan
finds a partner whose masochism compliments his selfishness and
emotional ambivalence. Jonathan does not want her to hold a job, but
neither does he like the fact that she spends all day in bed sleeping, or
watching TV. Sandy falls in love with his first collage romance, Susan
(Candice Bergen); they marry and have children. But Sandy is haunted

HIS MAJESTY, BUNKER BEAN - Matt Moore, Dorothy Devore,

money, he goes to a Balthasar (Frank Leigh), a fortune teller who tells
him of his noble Egyptian ancestry. This tale, of course, is only meant to
squeeze more money out of Bean, and it works, for five thousand dollars
he purchases a mummy, which was supposedly him in a past lifetime.
Breede's daughter Marie (Dorothy Devore) is fascinated with all this
and convinces Bean to marry her, but when Bean's dog rips the
"mummy" to shreds, it is obviously a fake and the disheartened young
man can't bring himself to go through with the wedding. Bean's
manhood is finally put to the test when his rival for Marie's hand, Bert
Hollins (Gayne Whitman), starts causing trouble. The two men duke it

THE PAWNBROKER - Rod Steiger, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Brock
Peters, Jaime Sanchez, Thelma Oliver -This was one of the first films to
deal with the affects of Nazi Germany's concentration camps on their
survivors. Sol Nazerman, operator of a pawn shop, and a concentration
camp survivor faces a horrid internal conflict. Being engulfed in a New
York Getto Environment, Sol suffers flashbacks. The flashbacks
juxtapose concentration camp treatment with Getto neighbourhood
treatment. Although, the flashbacks suffer several historical
inaccuracies, the point is well made. His internal conflicts between
submitting to the same injustices he and his family suffered or resisting
the injustice a peak at the end of the film - 3x1600ft b/w sound £89.
THEY SHOOT HORSES DON'T THEY - Jane Fond, Michael
Sarrazin, Susannah York, Gig Young, Red Buttons, Bruce Dern,
Bonnie Bedelia - This movie documents the depression era pathos by
showing us a glimpse of a group of dance-marathon contestants battling
it out for a winner-take-all purse. Their lives become symbolic of their
efforts in the marathon: inexorable pain, constant cramping, and a
constant questioning of just "why live in all this misery?" Eventually,
the lead performances, especially those of Susannah York and Jane
Fonda, show at once characters strong-willed but overcome by simple
animal survival. The rest of the stellar cast captures this bleakness as
well (watch a young Bonnie Bedelia sing for thrown pennies!!!).
Eventually the movie painfully climaxes to let one realise the issues
raised by the movie title. The film is stunning in capturing the simple
struggle of humanity; it's a must-see, but only once!!! - 3x1600ft col snd

bombardier in World War II tries desperately to escape the insanity of
the war. However, sometimes insanity is the only sane way cope with a
crazy situation. Catch-22 is a parody of a "military mentality" and of a
