Well Ross thanks to the BFI delivery department this morning i have just received 17 boxes of Prisoner episodes on 35mm.

There is a film God out there!

That's interesting to hear Robert - I'm visiting the BFI archives soon to donate some rare nitrate 35mm films to them - I had no idea they were giving films away to private collectors. I always thought films donated to them were kept in their own archives for future reference even after digital backups have been made.

Their database also mentions they don't have any film elements for The Prisoner - see below - did yours come privately from a BFI employee?

Might be worth asking about that before you donate Kevin, personally I don't think they would give films away,that normally only happens when a place is closing down and even then costs would be involved.Mark.

They are not, i actually know someone who works for the BFI/Network. Who had these prints struck from the original negatives at Technicolor UK in Bath Road in 2005 and these were the last prints ever struck of the series.

As you well know these prints are rare as hens teeth. I personally have never seen this title ever offered on 35mm let lone 16mm.

As you can understand because of the age of the negatives these will never be printed ever again.

If i have the time i will see if i can load up some pictures from the prints. I have to say the quality is breath taking.

They will look stunning Robert I'm sure - thank you for clarifying their origins as of course Network and the BFI are two entirely separate companies.

If your contact at Network ever decides to sell their 35mm print of The House In Nightmare Park please let me know.

Perhaps I should get more excited about the fact that I own about 20 mins of a badly-faded Prisoner episode on 16mm!

I have a print of Dance of the Dead. Colour has warmed a bit but the it's in pretty great shape otherwise. Didn't realise there weren't many 16mm prints of The Prisoner struck. I could swear I've seen them pop up on eBay, but maybe I dreamt it.

Mark,

Initially when originally screen in the UK back in 1967-68 they would of used 35mm prints.

16mm prints would be generally used for overseas sales.
