If you are interested in films from the 1960's and 1970's I can thoroughly recommend a magazine called "CINEMARETRO". This magazine is 64 colour pages of film fact, interviews and aricles relating to that era. I have not seen a mag like this for a long time. There are no advertisements, just loads and loads of reading.

The mag is produced and designed by Dave Worrall and Lee Pffeifer, with regular contributions from actors Christopher Lee, Richard Kiel, Maddie Smith, Roger Moore to name but a few. Dave was the editor, for a long time, on "Film for the Collector",from Derann, before going freelance. He is a James Bond and Clint Eastwood fanatic and produced the excellent "Extras" programmes on the James Bond DVDs. It makes a refreshing change to find a magazine that can be READ, from cover to cover, without having to "skip" 50% of it because of adverts. I must point out that, as mags go, it's not the cheapest in the world, with only 3/4 issues a year. This is because it is not subsidised by adverts). The good news is that the print runs are limited, it is only sold at selected "specialist" outlets and is mainly available by subsciption. This, in my opinion, makes it a "collectable" item which should increase in value over the years. I am sorry if this post seems like an "advert" (I can assure you I am not on commission). I just feel that something this good should be shared with fellow film enthusiasts. I have subscribed to a great many film related magazines over the years and it seems that the best ones have always "gone to that great re-cycle plant in the sky" (like Movie Maker, Movie Collector, etc), due to lack of interest and/or sales. The current mags (Empire, Total Film and Film Review etc) are all "much of a muchness" - they all carry the same articles and reviews. What makes CINEMARETRO different is that it not only concentrates on a particular era in films, but it also covers up to date items as well. I cannot praise it enough (as you've probably gathered by now) Have a look and see what you think?
PS - I spoke with Dave Worrall yesterday and he tells me that Back Issue copies are still available, at the moment, but are getting less and less by the day. CinemaRetro will not be doing any "print re-runs" of Back Issues, so get 'em while you can. [ November 04, 2007, 01:40 PM: Message edited by: Keith Ashfield ]
