I'm new to 8mm and was wondering what would be a good decent first projector. I currently have a cheap Keystone Dual K539 and a K560,8mm projectors I picked up at a flea market for $3.00 Each. The K539 works but needs a DFE Bulb the K560 doesn't work (needs belts) but the DJA bulb works. I've already ordered a DFE Bulb from another member(Thanks Gary)but I think I'm already for the next step ie. a decent first projector. Nothing too expensive since I'm sure to move up to something better. I was thinking something in the $50-$75 Range off of E-bay. Any advice on Models, things to look for and to avoid is appreciated. Thanks

Luis, it depends a little on what you demand from the machine. The best projector for Regular-8 film in my eyes is the Paillard-Bolex M 8. Brilliantly designed mechanics, oil-felt lubrication. One drawback is that it does not run in reverse.

If you feel you'd want something more modern I'd suggest a Eumig Mark S. These have good magnetic sound and can be tuned. Problem there: motor bearings.

Luis and Simon: Welcome.

Luis, the Eumig would be my choice. You can find one in your price range and I'd choose the Mark S 810 D.
Excellent manual format change from regular to super 8, rock steady picture and good sound output.

I agree with Jean, and welcome to the format!

A lot depends on how much you cherish your films. My first super 8 projector was a "Soundstar" and it scratched every film I had, from day one!

My second wasn't much better, it was a Kodak Ektasound, and while it played both 8mm and Super 8, it at least was a step up.

Then, I moved onto my first Eumig. I can't remember exactly what model it was, but it does sound like the 810, and it was quite good.

When I got into Derann and other good prints, I bought my first EUMIG 926 stereo, and boy! was I impressed!

Good luck in your search!
