Merry Christmas everyone. I recommend Billy Wilder's The Apartment as a seasonal choice. Not on film so far as I know but a good DVD that should be shown in the original Panavison aspect ratio.

Merry Christmas. Just finished watching "White Christmas" the first film in Vista Vision on DVD. Couldn't watch it on film; wouldn't know how to run it through the film gate horizontally.

Guy, you just turn the projector on its side. [Big Grin]
Incidentally the blu ray of White Christmas is awesome picture quality.

I think last year was the first time it was not on TV at Christmas for many years. Perhaps I will have to show it in my home cinema on DVD this year ! (Groans fro all the family!!). I have quite a large collection of Crosby films on digital including the couple of Sennet shorts on 9.5mm sound. This is pure nostalgia because my mum idolised him and as a child was taken to sea nearly all his films and listened to so many of his records on 78rpm. Ken Finch.

I have already mentioned this on the 'local videma' thread but just in case no-one has read it - four of us went to see White Christmas at our local last Sunday night. Presentation is usually good there, but this time we could hear the music that accompanies the opening credits but we were watching a blank screen until the opening scene. I suppose someone must have realised at that point it would be a good idea to let us see the images too! [Smile]

Like Ken, I have a number of Crosby films on dvd including White Christmas. In the 1950's/60's my father had a small collection of 9.5mm sound films one of which was the Sennett/Crosby short, 'Blue Of The Night'. I really liked that film so when I started collecting 8mm in 1972 I bought the Walton version, only to be disappointed to find all the opening scenes had been cut.
I looked for a full length version for forty years without luck until one day I found on ebay two sources. One was a 16mm print for £30 the other was a dvd with 5 Paramount musical shorts including Blue Of The Night - for 99p.Ashamed to say I took the dvd route.
Oh by the way, Season's greetings to all.
Mal

Ken Blue of the Night was quite a project for me once upon a time. I got a 9-5 sound print with part missing then years later found another one and made up a complete print. Think we shall have a screening tonight.

A happy healthy Christmas to all.
