David. i sometimes think that a small number of collectors do not see what goes into the organisation of the likes of the blackpool film fair. its a lot of planning and hard work. when Derann did this event they had quite a lot of paid staff and as David Guest has pointed out this event is only made possible by the time he gives himself, and by a small number of volunteers who also give their time to make it what it is. so it would be nice if just a little more thought was given about what has to be done to make it all happen.i am sure it would be appreciated if Peter Scott is willing to give his time by transporting films from one area of the hotel to another to what he considers an improvement to the auction. going by last years event an even better time lies ahead for all those who are making the effort to attend this year. as long as you the collector supports it, i see it going from strength to strength. have a great time everyone... see you all there.

Peter. no sarcasm was meant, and im sorry if you have taken it that way. its not just a case of hireing a room and setting up a few tables.everyone involved in the blackpool film fair is kept very busy. especially on the sunday itself. it is done to the best it can be. it was a bigger success than ever last year being held at the Hilton hotel. and a great time was had by all who attend. and this year will be the best yet.

I must admit, it was a stroke of genius by David to move the film fair to the Hilton, my wife and I have stayed at the Hilton many times in the last 15 years and find it a top hotel. I don't think a better hotel in Blackpool could have been found, well done David, see you all on Sunday.

no sarcasm but you followed up with a reply
derann used to use a small trolley and they had more than 300 films.
one of the reasons the auction is held in the dealers room as its very time consuming transporting films from one room to another with only a handful of dedicated members who on sunday will be showing films and doing the very busy bring and buy and another reason is to give the dealers a chance to bid I hope this answers your question fully see you sunday thanks

The Radio Times shows that we share Blackpool with Strictly Come Dancing again this year, despite the change of date.

Watch out for outside broadcast vans around the Tower Ballroom!!

Well I've got everything ready for the convention dinner, tombola, raffle prizes, posters and other things which I won't mention just yet, Adrian has one or two surprises as well along with his great film quiz during the meal. It's going to be a great night, REMEMBER, if you are not going to the dinner but will be in Blackpool on Saturday night you are welcome to come to the dining room at the Hilton at about 9pm and buy an entertainment ticket, this gives you access to the room after the actual dinner you can buy tickets for the raffle, £1 a ticket (valuable prizes to be won),and sit down and watch the film show, we also have a bar so you can get refreshments, you will be most welcome so give it a try. entertainment tickets available at the Friday night film show being held at the Hilton Hotel at 8.30pm.onwards see Adrian Winchester also on the Saturday night, just turn up after the dinner about 9pm.entertainment tickets cost just £3.00. The Sunday Convention itself is going to be the best one for many many years loads of dealers and some surprises you can't miss it! all thanks to David Guest and his small team who have really got the convention buzzing again.See you there

Following on from David's message, I'll add that I'd suggest anyone dropping in for the Saturday night post-dinner entertainment arrives in the period 9.30 to 9.40pm, as 9pm would be rather early.

I've been advised that someone has sadly has had to pull out of the dinner, so I can accommodate one (or possibly two) last minute bookings. So if you would like to come please catch me at the Friday evening show or try the function room we are in on Saturday, from 4pm.

Hi all,

Have a great time this weekend - I will I could be there - but as a teacher living in South Wales - I really wouldn't be able to get to Blackpool until sometime on Saturday then leaving before the afternoon - as I will be in work Monday morning - the real shame for me is that I don't believe this hobby really took hold in South Wales and if it did - I believe there are very few collectors left. So as a result the only events available to me are Blackpool , Ealing and Cleethorpes . Would be great if something could happen in Cardiff - but I doubt that would ever happen.

David

P.S - Mr Guest - if you have any super 8 left after Sunday - shorts , features etc - please send me a private message with a list

I hope it all goes really well as I am certain it will and cannot wait to see some fabulous screenshots of the event posted here from one of the lucky ones able to attend. [Frown]

Smashing evening at the film fair with David's surprise presentation of Goldfinger on 16mm and his giant screen plus the Elf Xenon. We certainly had a fun evening and a lovely surprise also to see dear Keith Wilton with us.

well what can you say about this film fair. i have just returned from blackpool. i can honestly say this really was the best yet. it all started friday evening with the showing of goldfinger on 16mm. the weather outside was very very windy, but inside a great time was had by all .a great night and some unexpected laughs to help the night along. great fun indeed. saturday and the evening meal was fabulous. the organisation was faultless. Adian Winchester as compare and the work done by both Adrian and David Watson is tremendous. some excellent prizes were won in the raffle inc a super 8mm feature of THATS DANCING which was won by PROJECTIONS magazine editor Pete Travers. many other superb items were kindly donated as prizes. the after dinner film show supplied by David Guest was a real treat. a mind blowing collection of shorts and rare trailers in 16mm .inc a stunning trailer of CASINO ROYALE with Daniel Craig. we were then treated to the lovely b/W british comedy A HOME OF YOUR OWN. all superbly projected by Mark Norton and Simon McConway. the night was a huge success. and lovely to see Keith Wilton attending too. the sunday the main dealers were up and ready for the opening at 10am. a fabulous turnout and as usual some fantastic bargains to be had eg. Eumic super 8mm sound projectors at £25. super 8mm sound 2 reelers 5 for £20 with such titles as 42nd street. golddiggers 1933 and footlight parade all in original cases. 16mm projectors £30. 16mm shorts from just £1. i could go on and on. those who did not go missed an absolute corker. believe me . the auction also had some really excellent buys and fabulous bargains. also attending this year was Bill Parsons.of course many many other familiar faces were to be seen.brilliant films shows also given during the day by Don Sykes and Bob Nicholls. so once again another huge success of this highly respected film fair brought to us once again by Mr David Guest. i thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. it was lovely seeing everyone having such a good time. so heres to next year. and it would be so nice to hear no lame excuses like i have to work. the dates of these events are given months in advance. we are all allowed time off. holidays etc. so make it a priority next year. its your loss after all by not attending. thank you to everyone who i spoke to over the weekend you made it what it is. thank you.

Hi all,

Glad you had a good time - but Mr Barker - having to work is not a lame excuse and as a teacher who finishes at 3.25pm and then starts his work day at 8.45am - I would only have been able to arrive on the Saturday and leave by lunch time on the Sunday - as Blackpool to South Wales is a considerable drive. Not everyone lives in Lancashire.

David
