We went to The Enzian today, as they had a special (tribute to Debbie Reynolds) showing of Singin' In The Rain. The house was packed, and the audience just reveled in this glorious film, breaking out in applause after each of the amazing song and dance numbers, and roaring with laughter at the wonderful Jean Hagen ('Laura Lamont')comedy situations. I have seen this film more times than I can count, but I have to say that Today's showing with a large engaged audience was my most enjoyable viewing. After the show I spoke to Henry Maldanado, one of the directors of The Enzian. I told Henry that IMO nothing close to Singin' In The Rain would ever be made again, the film is just peerless. Henry agreed and said that films like this are like jewels in your pocket, to be carried with you through life, and to remain immortal. A nice thought.
