I have written this before to be sure, but i don't have a recollection of the responses ...

Does anybody know if Dave Thomas, of "Dave Thomas Films" still is alive and well? I would most certainly like to call him or e-mail him, as I am wanting to write a little piece for the Reel Image magazine about the history of the super 8 optical sound prints.

I know that, up to about 5 or 10 years ago, he was still selling stuff on ebay, most DVD's but still a few super 8's and 16MM films, but that ended (I'm pretty sure) some years back. I haven't seen anything of him since then.

Does anybody have any "current" info?

Best wishes

OSI

Osi,

Dave Thomas is still selling on eBay, however he has moved from films to records. Here is a link to his eBay store, DAVE THOMAS BACK TO VINYL.

For a while, this was one of my favorite sellers!

He had bought up a collection of films about various nature sports: mountaineering, kayaking, white water rafting.

-I bought every one I could.

He's had that 400 footer "Big Game Animals of Krugar National Park" for years now: I'd have bought it about 2016 if it had sound!

He got tired of his films turning red for one thing. he felt that when Derann Films went out of business, that this was the end for super 8.

I wouldn't be surprised if he still has some super 8 lying around, but he didn't say if he did. I think I'll let him know about this forum, just in case he didn't know that super 8 is still alive! [Smile]

Well, perhaps on life support, but we're still around!
