As most 9.5 enthusiasts know, Pathescope were cheese-paring with the design of their Son sound projector. To achieve a reasonable selling price of £78 in the 50s, certain limitations were made.
Possibly the biggest problem nowadays is the poor motor which is liable to break down and also, as it is a brush motor, cause constant shutdowns of its supply due to modern house wiring regulations.
I understand that many Sons have been rejuvenated by fitting a synchronous motor (and a solid-state amp.)
Has anybody done this? What sort of motor is suitable? Can one be salvaged from a defunct Super 8 projector?
