Hi, I just acquired an ST-1200HD projector. Does this unit play Stereo sound tracks? It has a balance control and a channel one and two or both switch. Also, what is the best bulb to use for the brightest picture? where can I find a manual for this one. Will the stock market improve?

Hi Dan. I have 2 of these machines. They are twin track but with a mono amplifier.Therefore it will play stereo tracks by switching to 1&2 but it will be a mono mix. However at the rear of the machine are 2 line out sockets [1 & 2] and if you connect from there to an external stereo amplifier you will get stereo sound. The output signal is quite low though, so you will need a fairly hefty amplifier or pre-amp. The lamp you need is A1/232 15volt 150 watts. The xenophot version gives about 20% more brightness than the normal lamp. We converted ours to 24v 250w lighting but that requires an external transformer and cable re-routing. Mal, thanks for all the excellent info. I wish I could find a manual for this projector. Is the 1A/232 bulb the same as the EFR. Also, on the auxiliary out on the back, it only works with a stereo 1/8 mini plug. [Smile]

Hi Dan,
You are correct on the lamp front. The A1/232 is the same as the EFR. Yes too on the 1/8" mini jack front. You will need a particularly sensitive input on your amp as the level out of these moni sockets is quite low. Once you get over that hurdle you will find the stereo is quite good from the ST1200HD although it wasnt designed with that in mind.

I have a copy of the instruction manual for an ST1200HD that I bought recently so send me your address and I will post to you. If there are any key pages then I might be able to scan and email a copy just let me know.

Mal, I was intrigued by your conversion to a 24v 250w bulb. Could you post a little more detail on how you achieved this? Also what about the extra heat that this generates- is there a risk to the film/projector? My ST still has the rubber around the motor wheel that I am told can perish so I wondered if the extra heat could advance this?

As for the stereo I too have tried linking to amplifiers but found the result disappointing with a low signal. Will try to find a pre-amp and see if that helps. Compared to my GS 800 the ST sound output from the internal mono amp is very good. [Smile]

Tony, we converted the HD's about 20 years ago. At one time Tony Shapps at the Widescreen Centre used to sell transformers specifically for lamp conversions. The conversion does require some electrical knowledge because we use heavy duty (10 amp) miniature relays mounted inside the machines. Luckily I am an electrician and my friend and fellow collector is a dab hand at electronics and metalwork. He constructed small units to hold the [fan-cooled] transformers and the lead from this plugs directly into the side casing using professional grade plugs & sockets. The beauty of this system is that when the transformer is not plugged in to the Elmo, the relay trips and the machine reverts to 15v 150w. All we need to do then is to move the little pin to the first slot of the lamp holder and replace the lamp. As for sufficient cooling, the HD is very efficient and all I can say is that we haven't experienced problems. For home use the 150w version is good enough, we used the higher lamp for halls and schools. A couple of years ago we aquired a GS 1200 (for £300!) so the HD's are used for the home and back-up for the GS. Sorry they are not for sale! Thank you for showing interest.

Hi, guys, thanks for all the great help. I got the bulbs and I found a manual. Thanks to Anthony for trying to fax me. I just bought an HP fax machine and haven't quiet gotten use to using it.
