I was trying to figure out what the last super 8 projectors being manufactured were. I seem to remember seeing the top of the line Beaulieu projectors being sold brand new for about $2,500 dollars in the mid-1990's. I'm not sure if they were being manufactured at that time, but the were being sold new and in the box. I think they also were selling a xenon model too.

Can anyone enlighten me on this? Does anyone own this model that can comment about the quality as compared to the popular Elmo model. Nick.

The Widescreen Centre were selling them until a few years ago. They were also selling the Silma Stereo Blue Memory until about ten years ago.

Beaulieu made the 708EL not in a Xenon ,but a HTI version. This 250watt lamp was roughly twice as bright as the Xenon version of the Elmo GS1200 Xenon. However you needed an outboard power source to ignite the lamp.
Some of the advantages of the Beaulieu is the manual loading, ability to handle 2200 ft reels,EXCELLENT lens focusing system(a micrometer adjustment)and a pressure plate system designed to consistently maintain focus,
even when mixing film stocks with different thicknesses (primarily acetate and polyester.
When these units were new they were running for a list price of about $6000 for a new halogen unit and $9000 for a HTI model. The latest price I have seen for a HTI model used was about $4000 and this was about 3 months ago. Very rare.
You can also get a regular halogen and have a company in Germany do the HTI conversion for you for about $2000-3000 US dollars.
I have heard they are fragile machines but great ones though. Oh and the worst drawback? They do not play optical!
