While i like my Elmo's my bro loves his Eumigs and we have obtained one that is in excellent condition but has not been used in years. Its an 807 duel.
i gave it a clean up and wiped those awfull rubber drive wheels with alcahole cleaner but the macine just will not go above a few frames per second befor grinding to a halt,
Any Ideas? [Confused]

I dont like to lubricate any projector without a guide telling me what should be lubed.

Hello Tom

This might not help you at all but I was suffering a similar malady with the Elmo SP Hi-Deluxe that I bought a couple of weeks ago [see thread on lubricating plastic gears].

I actually never got round to lubricating anything, though I still might when we have reached the definitive answer on the issue of appropriate lubricants, but I can report that the projector is now working perfectly.

Like your brothers it hadn't been used for many years and when set to run just turned over at a few frames per second. I got into the habbit over a couple of days of setting it to run for ten minutes at a time with no film in it, to begin with in order to get it going I even had to give the take up reel a spin. Gradually it eased up and after about four days of being run at intervals it is now purring away perfectly.

I think the works just needed running in like a new car.

It might just be a case of patience and perseverence? [Wink]

Hi its a common problem and once you get there its usually going to stay like,that unfortunately. its the older Eumig curse, had loads like that in the past so then decided to give them a miss.
I was also never too keen on the film damage on the duallers anyway, though they are solid.

You need to replace the discs, or you can scrub them very very gently with some sort of mild abrasive sheet: this will take away the hardened surface of the discs, and let the motor's pulley work in contact with 'real' rubber thus achieving the necesary grip. But beofre doing this, try lubricating all the gears directly and indirectly working with the main shaft, including the shutter cam and claw arm etc. It might just be a case of dried lubricant. Also loosing a little bit the clutches of the arms might help, before scrubbing.

Mark i do appreciate what you say there as this is my brothers 4th or 5th Eumig and most of them have suffered in this way, very frustrating half way through a film when they begin to slow down. [Mad]

Mike, if you wish, e mail me your addresss and i'll send you the forward page of the 1200HD repair manual which shows thew lubes to use. The grease recommended by Elmo is ALVANIA GREASE, unfortunatly i have never tried to get it as i use Elmo special oil,(red) maybe someone could tell us the specs of the alvania grease and maybe where we can get some [Wink]

Hi Tom, I have a bit of Alvania grease in a tub which I got from Ilfords years ago and that is red. Its strange but if you were to topen a new Elmo you would be confronted with a brown grease even though the manual states this alvania stuff!!!

Wierd!!
Mind you its a bit like a new engine in car, the oil from new is running in oil and thereafter you just use the recommended stuff.
Maybe the oil from factory also help prevent gunging up before first use [Smile]
