I have just bought a film from a dealer who tells me it was pre-owned by a famous celebrity.

I just womdered who the most famous collector is or was

Anyone know anyone etc?

Of course Bob Monkhouse used to collect though mainly 16 I believe, also Brian Murphy( Goerge and Mildred, available on DVD) did do super 8 and mainly optical titles I believe.
Thats about all Ive heard of but bound to be others.

Hello Boss,
Just got it. Glad you got it ok. I will let you know if anymore come up. Hpoe you enjoy it, and of most importantly for me, you can see when i say something is in good condition that i mean it. I 'd never want dissapointed friends as i do know,(like we all do)what its like to be on the recieving end of a film which is in A condition but is generally a dog. [Wink]

Paul Daniels apparently used to collect super 8 stuff and I believe he attended a few conventions during the 70s' and 80s'.

Not exactly super star status I know but well known.

Ah post cross over Big T being Mr M. Big Tony that is, nothing weighty suggested just sounds a bit filmie.
Thanks Tom, also put a post to you somewhere here or there so thanks for that.
Just about to set up in time for the premier Tom, can`t wait, had a look on the edge and its a 75 print, kept very well nearly 30 years old.
Columbia did do some very nice stuff.

Following on from Mike's mention of Paul Daniels, I saw him at one or two Widescreen Centre conventions around the early to mid 1980s. I believe he was particularly keen on scope, but whether his main interest was collecting or film making, I don't know.
Also, Norman Warren (who may not be household name, but directed British horror films such as 'Satan's Slave', 'Terror' and 'Inseminoid' in the 1970s and 1980s) collects 8 & 16mm, and I've seen him at a couple of BFCCs.

Did Edward Heath collect super 8 or 16mm.

I rememember the story of him showing Tom & Jerry cartoons at Chequers when he was Prime Minister.

Elvis, probably the most famous watched 16mm films in the den at
Graceland. One of his favourite all time films , The Wild One -
Marlon Brando ; he also loved Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther
movies & Monty Python .

He also hired out the local cinema The Memphian in the early hours to entertain friends - but if he was bored after the first reel the movie was changed!

I suppose there will be many clebs who dabbled in its hay day, but now I`d expect any or most will have gone to VP, Bob Monkhouse had I think, he used to watch two or three films a day apparently.
Christopher Timothy eh, all of those life insurance adds must be paying of if he`s still in to it.

The most-well-known personalities who collected Super/Std 8 include Frank Sinatra, Jr., and Mel Torme - Turner also I've heard, but that was back when - Many celebrated people of the past had vast film collections (Mostly 16MM)- I'm a union actor who isn't famous, getting there and collects fot some forty years - Cheers - Shorty
