I recently purchased a second hand film and it has a distinct mildew odor.
Is there any method to remove this smell from the film?

I Have to be honest Ive been getting sick of some of the shitty rubbish ive been sold lately on 8, and its so rotten.
The seler will have known about the smell and thats pretty obvious its not right, a mildew smell on anything spells trouble.
Why oh why don`t people mention these things, sorry for your bad luck Michael.
I`ve recently had poor prints, warped prints, red prints far too dark prints, multi and not a flammin mention from the sellers.
With that sort of thing all too liklely in the hobby how on earth can we get new folks on board.
People will say "I only buy from people I know" etc but to get stuff you want you often have to go outside of that loop.
And a newby of course coming fresh faced to the hobby has no idea of the pitfalls or that safety gate and the fact they will likely be spotted and mined as it were.
I`ve been in to films for 16 years and still get sold crap regularly even after good assurances.
Anyway wondering myself if its time to say goodbye to the hobby full stop as so many sellers are just taking the mick and that also comes through dealers lists as well as they get sold rot then miss things etc.
Can you send the film back Michael, hope so as if smelling like that film cleaner will help but its likely into the emulsion and persosnally I`d throw it rather than store it with my other films. Good luck.
Best Mark.

Michael,
Never had this problem and hope i never do, Mark, i don't know where you get your film from, but maybe you should look for another source.
I don't seem to have these problems, even from ebay i get 90% good stuff, maybe i'm just lucky.
if you are going to leave the hobby again Mark, and i don't think you will, your way to addicted, send me a list of your films, good ones only please.

Chris. [Wink]

Michael

Fortunately I've never had this problem either. Just lucky I guess. My experiences of eBay have really been at least 90% good, probably more.

Mark, you do have some bad luck don't you matey?! [Frown]

Hi Mike and Chris, yes I am unfortunately very unlucky often in film, I`ve had a few moulders from ebay, one of those with 4 times price postage than it was as well.
The best stuff I get is from Paul F, but these days in stead of sending duff stuff back I tend to just tell the person its faults and say no worries and see if a cheque turns up, it would from me. No luck yet!!!!!!! on those ones.
Had some very nasty reactions form sellers in the past even when I`m calm and polite etc so wary these days.
Don`t get me wrong I`ve had some good stuff as well but its rather balanced out by the crap.
Giving up, well its hard to do as you know that allure of the fiddly lovely stuff, the fun of getting your little chap( the projector ) out etc. I really enjoy just cleaning the gate, very sad.Oh dearie me.
Even just writing this makes me fancy a quick session so what can you do eh!!!!!!!!!
best Mark.
