We hear of various services available with regard to Elmo projectors, but it's quite a while since I've seen any references to anyone that repairs Eumigs. Wondered if anyone can recommend someone in the UK, preferably in the London area?
I once took one to Lee's cameras to get it fixed, but it went wrong again soon afterwards!

Hello Adrian

I know of a couple of camera repair specialists in Sussex that have been in the game long enough to have cut their teeth on cine, they have been quite happy to service my projectors [Sankyo and Elmo] I'm sure they would be happy to look at a Eumig as well but I imagine the problem would be if there were any replacement parts required.

Thanks, Mike & Craig, I'll keep the information in mind. I have a Eumig that may need some work done on it, but I must check it out more thoroughly first. Interesting to see what's on the Spondon site - I thought they had sold their stock and no longer existed.

I have recently reparaired my Eumig S802 here in Brazil at the shop http://www.mecanoticaonline.com.br

You'll find nothing on the site above, but they have still spares parts and make repairs on Eumig.

You can write and ask then, what you need.

Adrian, if your interested send me a private e mail and i shall mail you back with a very long establised repairer in Stoke on Trent who worked for Eumig at Johnsons of Henden who were the sole repairers for Eumig in this country. Unfortunatley at his request i cant put it out on the forum or in the FFTC mag simply because of his already high work load. [Wink]

This gent has repired ALL make and ALL gauges all his working years. The only down side is it can take many weeks to get it done.

I used to do fortnightly film shows during the winter months at a local resource center for people with learning dissabilities. I was then using two Sankyo Stereo 800s' that I ran in tandem to do continual shows from reel to reel [as it were].

I had the Sankyos serviced prior to the start of each 'season' and this was mostly cleaning, lubricating and making adjustments to the claw mechanism etc. I was always amazed at how much quieter they ran when they came back. Once or twice the invoice showed that a spring or something similar had been replaced in the gate area to maintain the proper tension, these were sourced through a dealer in London who apparently still had a certain amount of 'New Old Stock'.

The same camera technician quoted me some time ago for stripping my Elmo F1:1.0 lens that is suffering from bloom and repolishing it, applying a new coating to each element and re-collimate the lens.

Their sound always seemed better after a service as well, I don't know if this was due to the heads having an extra clean or if he adjusted their position.

Mike...thanks for your fascinating reply. I help out a friend, about 6 miles away, with the servicing of 16 mm projectors, mostly B & H. I was interested to see what the 8 mm service people did, compared to what I know the 16 mm service people do. It seems virtually the same. We adjust the claw, and lubricate as you say. This claw adjustment does cause machines to be quieter, as you say in your case. I've taken advantage of the 16 mm service training given, but now need to concentrate on 8 mm. How much is it to have your machines serviced, if you don't mind me asking. When I used to have to rely on the now deceased Sound & Screen Service for 16 mm repairs etc, it was often just less than £150 per time!! That was before I received my training on servicing!
