You may recall some years ago Derann had a promotion on optical prints, A fish called Wanda, Pale rider,Lethal weapon and a few others. At the time they came out on the news letter i seem to recall Derann also offered an optical only sound projector. They were limited in number and (i think)sold for around 199-299 quid. Can anyone remember these or perhaps some of you got one. I'm curious to the make and model as i've never seen an optical only sound projector.
Or am i confused and it was mag-opt [Confused]

Dear Tom,

I think your thinking of the Fuji SD-AUTO, a lovely little OPT/MAG 600' machine, and I believe the were alos twin track as well. If you look on one of Keith Wilton's videos, a collector has got 2 of these machines running together, and has added extra cooling to put in a 15v 150w lamp. They are lovely little machines, but the optical lamp is non standard, and can be a bit hard to find, but they rarely go!

Barry, while we are on this subject do you or anyone else on the forum have a picture of the Technicolor machines that were used in Aircraft? would be interested to see one.

Just sharing a bit of relevant info here - some mag/opt projectors I know of (besides the rather obvious Elmo ST-1200/GS-1200 machines, that is their M&O versions) are the Chinon 9500 and a Yashica something-810-or-other (I only recall the 810 part). Then there's the Bauer T192 (I think?) which not only could do mag & twin-track optical but also both super 8 and standard 8. Curiously none of Bauer's (or most anybody else's) high-end projectors seemed to have optical playback capability, other than Elmo. There sure weren't many manufacturers who thought it was even worth it, but the number of optical prints in existence clearly weaves a different tale [Wink]

I'm not sure, if my memory is right (not often these days) there's a picture of an Airline projector in one of the back issues of FFTC, I'll have a look through when I can.

Jean, I never knew eUmig did the 810 in optical/Mag. Thats certainly a new one on me. I wonder if anyone in the UK has one. As far as i can remember i dont recall ever seing Eumig 800 series with Mag/Opt. Whats The quality like on that one for Optical sound?

Tom, I didn't know about it until I saw one at an auction about three weeks ago. The bid went too high and I lost it, but now I keep my eyes and ears open. Eumigs are built like tanks, they are no-nonsense projectors. The 810 is one of the rare dual format machines that properly plays regular 8 sound films.

The Eumig 802 is just as good as the 810 for R8 sound!

I think there was a sankyo 850 mag and stereo but never seen one, just missed buying one from a chap in glasgow a few years ago, sounded nice.
Theres the Fuji SH30 150 watt lamp machine, also the sh8 and sh9 100 watt fuji machine`s and there`s the yelco 3600, one on ebay at the moment in the UK, someone we know well.
I think it was the bauer 190, no front sprocket mind so best avioded really, though maybe OK just for the poly opticals.
The chinon 9500 also pops up as the reuve R2 or something in germany but not very good optical sound on the one I had and a bit plasticy and not so kind to films either usually.
