I just acquired an Elmo GS-800 that is in excellent shape generally, but the left channel sometimes lets out a feedback squeal followed by a hiss that muffles the soundtrack. I can usually get it to stop by shutting off and starting up the projector again. It only happens during projection, so I wonder if it has something to do with the head.

Anybody have this experience? Is it worth fixing?

This is more likely to be caused by the record switch being dirty due to lack of use. Put the machine in and out of record a dozen times to see if it cures the problem. Most machines only ever get used for playing films so this switch never gets operated in its whole life. Thw switch contacts are self cleaning so should be used from time to time even if you dont intend to do any recording on it.

GS1200 Xenon with Elmo 1.0...great combo along with a 16-CL Xenon for that super bright white light.
