I was watching "Toy Story" mounted on 2x800ft reels, Bonums and when I went to use the fast rewind on the GS I noticed that after about 350ft the wind was uneven. Consequently when the film was finally rewound one side of the reel was sticking out and was very loose! So I rewound it again and noticed that the Bonum reel had a tendency to actually flare out as it got to the outer edges of the reel thus making a very loose and unevenly packed reel. Has this happened to any of you out there? It has only happened with this Bonum Reel. Never to any of the other reels I have. I need to replace it so...who make a good non flexing 800fter?

Odd... As these Bonum reels are actually made of two halves glued together at the core, could it be that yours is simply beginning to come apart? If you take that reel (without film) and press the sides together at the center, do you notice any looseness?

Its usually the cheap crabby spools that do that caused by a poor quality at the core. Bonum spools are normally pretty good, sometimes when you put the film into the slit it may catch badly or the film may crease causing a similar problem. But as yet this has not happened to me with one of these spools. [Wink]

Yeah.. I thought I had a bad reel. When I look at it straight down the center it looks like it is getting wider as it gets nearer to the edge. I didn't think it was a problem till the end of the wind and it looked like the Hunchback of Super 8 Dame!
