Well I'm off to give a Thanksgiving film show for family and friends at my daughter's house. I could lug the 35lb GS1200 or the 24lb Eumig 938, but I will be taking the little 14lb Eumig S820 Sonomatic HQS.
Really it is all I need. Fitted with the Ektar f1.0 lens it will give a crystal clear razor sharp 5ft wide picture on a portable silver screen. The single plug in 4 ohm Eumig speaker will fill the large living room with plenty of crisp sound.
Every time I use one of these machines I am really impressed with their simple, efficient, and very solid design. Eumig really delivered the ideal little machine for the average home, and they are still running like new 40 years later!
Anyone getting into the hobby should look no further than one of these wonderful little projectors.

Paul,

I have 2 - 824 Sonomatics and they are wonderful machines and to be honest - I use them more than my Elmo 1200hd's and my Fumeo 9119.

I simply love all my Eumigs. They will project any film stock with a nice steady image everytime that's is of course if the print is in a decent condition. They are less picky of film stock unlike some other machines I could name.

The only real downside for me though has always been that blasted infamous Eumig hum on the sound.

I too tend to use my Eumig Sonomatic 824 machine more than my Fumeo 9119 and Elmo GS1200 / 800 projectors.

I can't stop getting my S807 out of its box either. Something about its compactness and solidness, perhaps. Just a pleasure to use.

I have a Eumig 810D HQS that is set up for my standard 8 sound stuff and I like it very much. I have an 824 as well but have not been using it. It does run but has a few quirks to work out. When I got it it looked as if it hadn't been used for some time and it wasn't in the best storage conditions either. They do make a nice projector. [Smile]

As the dual gauge Eumigs only have one claw it is important that a film has perforations in good condition.

My Brother has always used his Eumigs as a first, he has his 810D HQS, the 802 the 807 and the 822 Sonomatic, agree that they are kind to films, very good image and sound except, as David said, that hum and for me that awful rubber disc drive. [Wink]

We did have the S940 stereo Multiprocessor, unfortunately it had been way over used for re-recording and didn't last long but what a machine. I personally would love another one or the even better, (for being able to repair it easier), the stereo 938. These two are top dogs but unfortunately to find a good one is difficult. [Wink]

The hum can be minimized by carefully adjusting the position of the hum bucking coil. For whatever reason, the hum level on my 824 Sonomatic is very low.
The slipping drive discs can usually be fixed by wiping with alcohol, brake fluid, automobile belt dressing, and other fixes mentioned on this forum over the years.
The only other failure I have encountered is cracking (resulting in slipping) of the top feed sprocket holder. This is very easily fixed by application of a good high strength epoxy.
Both my 820 and 824 are in top running order and I find them a joy to use. I also have a couple of spare sound heads, should I need them.

Tom, the 938 and 940 are superb performing machines, but IMO are nowhere near as robust as the little 800's.

Stop it all of you! I don't need another projector! 👍
Projectors are like woman's shoes to a man ..you can never have enough!
When I first got into Super 8 I had the horrible Chinon 4100 and it had a 75 watt bulb and it chewed my films. My friend was in film class and one day he brought over his Eumig 810D Lux. That projector was so much better in every aspect than mine. Better design-better image-sound-
What a great machine. I do love Eumigs though I don't have any right now. My favorite design of them all is the 926Gl Stereo. I remember it in my Sears catalog. Beautiful machine.

Alan, the 926GL is a great projector for use up to 400ft reels. With 600ft reels you often get vertical picture shake due to the pull and snatching on the feed spool (no top sprocket). I really dislike the coaxial reel single sprocket arrangement on the 926. The 938 is everything the 926GL has, with proper in-line double sprocket film path, plus 150 watt lamp, and 800ft capacity. A much better machine.

Yes I've owned all 3 of them. S926, S938, S940. And while the others definitely perform better.. well this one is GOLD! [Smile]
I like the visual aesthetic of this the best.

I took this photo of Steven with his Eumig years ago, he would have friends around and the the poor old Eumig used to blast out T/G cartoons from his bedroom [Eek!] Steven is now in his early 30s and graduated to a Elmo [Smile]

I also have a 822 Sonomatic HQS and I am very happy of it. A "tank" projector.

P.S. I would like to solve this little problem, to have a more comfortable recording. Does anyone help me? [Smile]

I have an 824 in like new condition complete with
original box, inserts ,instruction manual etc and as a dual guage projector it is probably unbeatable, but for straight Super8 I much prefer my Bauer T 502. Super quiet, kind to film and reliable and with the Schneider 1.1 lens - beautiful.
