Just back from the snowny weekend at Syracuse, NY....and for Super 8 folks, it was a good show....I found the super 8 splicer I was looking for...tons of super 8 sound shorts and features ...some very rare...and at very very reasonable prices. That wonderful Blackhawk scored Steamboat Bill Jr. was only 50 dollars...mounted on bonum 800 foot reels with the hinged boxes. Lots of nice things ....bulbs, splicing tape...tons of 16mm too. Also posters and lobby cards., etc.
A great show..with many rare films screened , as well.

Hi Gary - Did we meet? - Al Bartosh was holding STEAMBOAT for someone, wasn't sure who - It wasn't my game, I was after the shorts and found plenty, but perhaps we did meet - Anyway, it was a high-rated show this year, up alot from last year's attendance - Shorty

Joe,

How does this compare to the North American Convention you would like to see happen?

Syracuse isn't that far for quite a few of us. I have family up there and can motor up in about 6 hours.

All I ask is a wide screen and a projector to light her by...

Joe....coincidence would have it that I was the one who had the Keaton film put aside until the owner/seller returned . It was a gem of a print at only $50.00 for a Blackhawk scored print. I looked for your name tag on and off during the weekend, but never found you. And yes...there was a lot of super 8 there...I bought five cartoons, four Three Stooges comedies, two Charlie Chases...an Andy Clyde Columbia and some other things, not to mention the 16mm finds. Hope you found a few things. Alex always has some rare Castle and Blackhawk films ( yes, with boxes), but this year he only brought a smaller than usual vehicle, so he couldn't bring as much stuff as usual.

I could just cry [Frown] [Frown] [Frown] .

I truely would have been there, but a close friend was getting married on the same weekend. I've got to admit though, if I had known about all the super 8 that was there, I might have been minus one friend now [Wink] .

On the bright side-

Joe, this Syracuse event sounds like the perfect avenue for a super 8 program next year. That gives us a year to plan details, and talk to some of the few dealers over here on the east coast, like Dave Thomas and Steve Osborne.

If anyone wishes to PM me about ideas, feel free. I don't want to be the coordinator, but, will help any way I can.

James.

Yes, the CINEFEST might just be the tag for Super/Std 8 collectors to meet and have a section to sell, trade and whatever - I'd like to help all I can - It must simply be a matter of logistics, reserving space and contact - But I suppose that if, many more of us would be able to be at the show with their wares, a true gathering can be realized for the first time in a long time - Gary, Al didn't bring alot of 8, as he said much didn't sell last time, but I'm sure next time he'll bring his stock - Shorty
