Just a little reminder it’s the Farnworth Film Collectors Convention at Trinity Church Hall this weekend Saturday 22nd Sept.

As mentioned before I will be on a dealers table and here are a few highlights what you can expect to see on that very table.
Super 8mm Sound Projectors and cases
A good selection of Super 8mm film including new and factory boxed Walt Disney 200ft reel shorts only £2.00 each.
Creature From the Black Lagoon in 3D 400ft reel
Captain Marvel 400ft episodes
Alien
The Excorsist
Star Trek
Plus many, many more…
We will also have Super 8 features and some very nice classic 16mm features.

You will also be able to buy your ticket for the Derann November Northern Film Convention only from us on Saturday at a discounted price of only £5 each.

All items on our stand are on a special offer price for this event only.

Happy film collecting.

Just a few free minutes to do a short report on the Farnworth Film Fun Day.
We landed about 8:30am and the dealer’s room was full of enthusiasm for film as we seemed to spend forever enthusing about film. I myself was manning a stall for someone else and helping a film friend out. The doors were due to open at 10:30am and by the time I finished chatting it was 10 so I had plenty to do in time for the opening as I had not yet set up the films or projectors.

The September event is usually a much quieter bash than the one earlier in the year, but we did have a very good attendance which was surprising to be sure. However, trade for film was very slow and I know one dealer who sold nothing all day unwilling to move on pricing. We eventually sold our first film at 1pm and things improved thereafter. I have to be honest and say 8mm seems to have become a bargain basement feature of these film events and I purchased for myself more than I sold for my friend I think. In the end we cam away a little up on the day, and I secured some nice material for my own collection which was very nice. Items purchased were, Gone with the Wind feature £65.00 with very nice colour, Wargames for £35.00 and several shorts including 400ft of Fantasia for £3.00.

16mm trade was brisk as was 9.5mm and I did sell quite a few films with 9.5 proving more popular than any other gauge. The organiser had a very good auction at 3PM and Elmo 1200ft reels were on sale for £2.00 which I was lucky enough to win 2 of. 16mm features were going for around £20 to £30 for black and white, with good colour features around £40.00. I purchased a super 8mm sound projector for £2.00 sold as seen. We plugged it in when we returned home and it worked fine! We also purchased for my own collection several super 8 trailers for 25p each including Die Hard.

At the end of the day it was all very enjoyable and I am pleased to report we did see some new young faces which is what the hobby needs in the UK.

Perhaps the best part of the day was that we received an invite to a super 8 show that evening which rounded the day off very nicely and we also made some new film friends.

The Farnworth conventions are always very friendly events and this one was no exception with plenty of time for a chat about film and the good old days when Derek was on the scene at Derann and those super open days. Some of us intend to make the trip to the Christmas open day at Derann so we should have a good turnout from our region.

Hi Lee,

Gone with the Wind feature £65.00 [Eek!] amazing

You said you was manning a stall, shouldnt that be Mannering!!

Dissapointing to see you wasnt at 9.5 Harpenden but I will catch up with you later.

On a different note its surprising to see the september event more low key than the spring, given that the evenings are darker in the autumn and winter and you would think people would be buying for their film shows.

Also, did you mangae to take a short video for youtube.

catch you later

Graham S

Thanks Graham.
Re Harpenden. In the 80’s I supported every UK event for years so I feel I have done my bit. Now somewhat older and certainly not with splendid health as I used to have, along with a poorly wife I spread myself a little thinner as a result and also the cash. Travelling the Harpers and the stop over is an expensive job for us in the Northern part of the UK, but I do as you know try to make the odd trip to Ealing as and when. Things are further complicated with having my Media business which expanded into Digital imaging in 06. With all the above in hand I think I’ve said a hatful.
I’m sure there is a film title there somewhere?

Did you video Harpers for us?

Certainly Graham. Not only did I film the whole day for all to see, but I also filmed us having lunch, me tying up my laces, even putting sugar in Peter’s tea!

Please read my message above and you will see if you read instead of skimming messages that I have more than enough on my plate without filming. If you take the time to read you will see my wife has been seriously ill and frankly, at one point after 3 operations in 3 days nearly passed away in hospital.

There is more to life than just film…
Please spare a thought for someone elses situation instead of making demands on others limited time.
