Winbert, that picture came from this ebay auction(not mine);

http://cgi.ebay.co m/8MM-MOVIE-FILM-THE-RED-BALLOON-SOUND-TECHNICOLOR-RARE_W0QQitemZ160185521910QQihZ006QQcategoryZ63821QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The seller says it's regular 8mm, I enlarged the picture of the reels to actual size(300%) and super imposed an actual 400' standard 8mm reel over it and the center hole appears to be standard 8mm.

Sorry to disagree, but if those are 400' reels - and they surely must be - they look exactly like Super 8 centres to me.

Those appear to be Super 8 center holes.

Hi,

don't pay too much attention onto the reels' holes! E.g. when the previous owner did have a dual-gauge-projector, you could find regular8-film on a super8-reel (and vice versa) as well... .
