I recently picked up a 400ft reel that is a Calamity Jane promo reel. It has no identification as to who put this out on Super 8, either on the box or the film itself. It looks like an exhibitors show reel, has all the main music from the feature and some dialogue and concludes with typical 1950's trailer graphics.

Does anyone know about this? I really enjoyed it and although certainly not new, the colour is great and it's sharp too.

If it came out in the 1970's then I missed it completely.

David, This was put out by Derann and in fact you will find that it is still currently available on their lists much to my surprise, when I checked.

Your right it is very good quality wise. It's a while since I watched my copy but I seem to remember it having some neg/master damage.

GS1200 Xenon with Elmo 1.0...great combo along with a 16-CL Xenon for that super bright white light.

As far as I can remember the negative damage has always been there, from when Derek Simmonds first released it back in the late 1970's. I think this was one of Derek's "special releases" [Wink] , "taken" from a 16mm negative. I may be wrong and I will stand corrected, if so.

Thanks for the info Kevin, Graham and Keith. Yes mine certainly has neg. marks, but I am glad I have the print as its a fun reel.

Some big stars like Doris Day were not overly represented in Super 8 especially given her career on the big screen. Another is Kim Novak, given the amount of films she made for Columbia and the volume of Super 8 releases that company put out; I can't recall one that she features in.

Anyway, I'll be threading up Doris Day again very soon.
