Just been working through there latest used lists and there are some really good films for sale, if you like Castle shorts grab the copy of "The Egg Cracker Suite" 1943 I bought this film new long ago and its well done, it may not have the vivid colour of Disney films but its a little classic in its own right.

Another one is "The King and I" in Scope and stars Yul Brynner not Yule Brinner [Smile] Derann got the spelling right, if I had not spent my next years allowance on "A Grand Day Out" I would be very temted to buy it, if I was allowed that is.

I love the Derann used film lists, but I have terrible luck getting the prints.

... even if I write back in the very same hour as I get the list. The titles I usually want get snatched up. Could somebody explain exactly how they do thier business on them.

For instance, my worst time to get the lists are on a friday afternoon, as I often do not hear back until Monday, and in those cases, i have never (yet) gotten the print I desired.

Is this because they are open on Saturdays but don't go over the e-mails they recieve, but do business on that day and quite frankly, lets face it, if someone comes in from off the street and they see the print you want available, it goes out that and your shit outta luck.

Don't get me wrong, I have always been well treated by them, (awesome guy that Gary!), but the used sales lists can be irritating.

On this new one that went out, I wrote both Gary AND Ged! Lets see if a double strike will work on that title!

Osi, the sales lists are sent out around 17.00 GMT on, usually, the last Friday of the month. The staff at the 8mm department do not work on Saturday, so any replies are dealt with first thing Monday morning, on a first come first served basis. This is why it is so difficult to get thru by phone, on Monday mornings. Everyone is trying to do the same thing. I believe it is done this way to prevent "over the counter" sales from "decimating" the list, before their customer base, who subscribe to the list, see it.
As we all collect "worldwide" and therefore live in different time zones it does make it difficult.
It is the fairest way to do it because if they put the list out at the start of the week, whilst they were open, us lucky chaps in the GMT time zone would "pick the carcass" clean. This way the "race" start at the same time for everyone at 09.00 GMT Monday morning.
Liken it to the "Californian gold strike" - miners in that, or neighbouring states, got to the gold before the miners in New York State. Now, if they had anounced the "Strike" at 09.00 on a Monday, so that ALL the miners were present at the same time, everyone has the same chance.
Believe me, Gary and Ged work tirelessly to be as fair with the e-mails and phone calls as they can and I can assure you that Monday morning will be manic for those lads.
I am sure that if any of the above is untrue, one of the stirling lads at DFS will correct it.

Keith,

You are spot on.

We have tried different solutions over the years
(split newsletters - some Tuesday, some Friday etc etc)
but have found that this is the best method to be fair to everyone.

By the way - we do not answer the phone before 9.00am
again as we feel this to be the fairest way - so sorry guys,
calling at 8.30 or 8.50 etc will not help either.

Kind regards

Adrian
