Just got my new Bolex B8 Standard 8 camera to give Standard 8 film another shot. Can any user explain, in their own words, how you set the light meter at the front? I have the instructions, but would like hear what users say, as it's not that easy.

I have a D8LA which I assume works the same way as your model.

Below the lenses is a table with exposure numbers from 1 to 16. A number is selected by cross referencing the ASA/DIN film speed against the lens to be used against whether the shutter is fully open or only half open.

The number given is then placed against the filming speed on the meter.

Press down the little lever above the exposure meter and look through the viewfinder. The longer black needle pointer will settle into position.

Rotate the lens aperture until the shorter red pointer aligns with the black one.

When motor is started the little lever will pop up.

And, away we go.

Thank you for that Maurice. What confused me was when the instruction manual said something about the "black arrow being in the thick black arc area of the non-moveable disc"...is this true? When I lined it all up for K40 film, the arrow was not in that thick black area.

My book says:-

"The black triangle on the mobile disc must always be within the limits of the thick black half-circle of the fixed outer crown."

On my camera this indicates exposure value 1 @ 16 fps to exposure value 8 @ 8fps.

It must be a literal translation from the German. I assume it is a warning to keep within the black area for successful exposure.
