That was my first sound projector, which I wish I hadn't got. It used to chew the leader up unless it was absolutely perfect, it was noisy compared with the other projectors I've had and pretty harsh on the film.

If I remember correct it has variable speed adjustment but I really recommend you get a different projector.

Yes, the 905 has the variable speed adjustment with a range from about 17 to 25 frames per second. It's a really precision control too, so you can set it pretty well dead nuts on 24 fps if you need to (for re-dubbing).
The 905 is the co-axial reel design, which a lot of people do not like because of the tortuous film path up to the gate, and the fact that there is no feed sprocket. This is what Sam is talking about, that the 900 to 929 series Eumigs all have this questionable design which can be hard on film unless you are very careful. The 930 and up are great machines - Eumig went back to a conventional in-line film path design with two sprockets. These later machines are wonderfully kind to film, and the projectors just purr along, unlike the noisy thrashing of the earlier 900's. The strong point of all the 900's is the excellent sound quality, which gets truly superb when you get to the stereo versions 926, 938, and 940.
If you are in the market for a better projector try for a 938 or 940, or even one of the earlier 800 series which are great little machines, again very kind to film.

Mark

I've got both the S926GL (600' concentric spools) and the S938. The latter will use up to 800' spools, and has two sprockets. The former projector only has the rear sprocket, the claw itself is responsible for pulling the film from the feed spool.

Both projectors have an infinitely variable speed control. The motor runs at a constant speed and the friction drive itself is variable.

The amplifier in both is the same, I believe. They are not made very well, at least, for lasting. The amp slider controls and the knobs themselves are very flimsy.

I suggest if you wish to acquire one of these Eumigs (or brother models) that you give them a thorough going-over before you commit yourself, and don't buy one blind.

It certainly is, best job for a cheap unused one is to take the soundhead out to put it in a 932,934,936 or 938 or 940 if the stereo ones are the same, I expect so.
Also the glass ware on the 905 is a little poor compared to say yelco, elmo, etc.
Best Mark.
PS I`d avoid any single 2nd sprocket machines altogther apart for spares or an absolutly last ditch back up machine if a give away or cheap.
