I have a question for the elctrical experts. Can transformer be safely hooked up in parallel to increase current capability?
Specifically, if I connect a small 50 watt tranformer in parallel to the lamp circuit output of the GS1200 transformer, could I then safely use a 250 watt ESC lamp instaed of the 200 watt EJL?
For the conversion of my KODASCOPE 50 to halogen lighting, can I connect two small 50 watt transformers in parallel to use a 12 volt 100 watt halogen lamp?

Quick answer, Paul........ NO !!

The output voltages would have to be ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL and connected in accurate phase. not practical, don't try it !!!
Also there would be no guarantee of the correct current sharing as winding characteristics are also involved. Not practical, don't try it !!!
For your 100watt requirement, a 150 watt transformer for domestic halogen lighting is dirt cheap in the UK( under $10)... probably so in the US.

Thanks Martin - I will never try paralleling transformers!I suspected the answer might be no, otherwise Kev and others would have already stuck a little 50 watt transformer inside a GS1200 and gone to a 250 watt ELC lamp.

To be quite honest Paul, I would suggest you buy one of the Fuji Lamp ESC's. These certainly give more light output than the EJL and probably more so than putting an ELC in the machine which has a spot designed to cover a 16mm sized gate.

GS1200 Xenon with Elmo 1.0...great combo along with a 16-CL Xenon for that super bright white light.
