I just got a NIB Sankyo Sound 700. I didn't need it as I have two Sankyo Dualux 2000H that are like new. However, the deal I got on it was to good to pass up. The manual says: "Your new projector can project Super-8 (or Single-8)magnetic sound film (talkies)." Question: Can it play non-sound Super 8 film? I don't want to experiment and risk running some film or the projector. I know I'll get the answer here. Thanks in advance.

Barry,

All Super 8mm (and Standard 8mm) sound projectors can also project silent films of the same gauge. Sound Super 8mm film is the same as it's silent counterpart, just a bit thicker because of the addition of the main and balance sound stripes. A few sound projectors have a switch/setting for silent films that keeps the sound head from coming into contact with the film, thus saving wear on the head. I know the settings on the Sankyo Stereo 800 operation contol switch are (going clockwise): Stop, Motor Forward, Silent Projection, Sound Projection.
